MoP Teams

Mists of Pandaria, where our pet battle obsessions began. This page lists the teams that I used the most during MoP. The 5.4 teams are on top, then 5.3 teams, then retired teams from before 5.3. If you’re looking for WoD teams then go here: WoD teams.

I still use a lot of my 5.4 teams in WoD, so just because they’re from MoP doesn’t mean they aren’t good anymore. At the end of 5.4 I did a countdown of my favorites in the daily battle section. Here are the links to my favorite 20 MoP teams, most of which are still competitive:

10/22/14 Teams 3-1
10/21/14 Teams 8-4
10/20/14 Teams 10-9
10/19/14 Teams 20-11

In case you have been directed here in the hopes of finding a team let me warn you that this is just a list with a short blurb about each team. If you want to see a more in-depth discussion then click on the link to the daily battle. It’s there that the strategy for each team is discussed and the team is sent to battle in the PvP queue. I also highly recommend reading my guide on team creation (Creating A Team).

obviousObvious Ponies
9/29/13
H/H Unborn Val’kyr (Shadow Slash, Curse Of Doom, Haunt)
S/S Fiendish Imp (Burn, Immolation, Nether Gate)
P/P Warbot (Missile, Minefield, Extra Plating)

I had to cash in on the Unborn Val’kyr Haunt buff. Along with the Minefield and swap combo this team is brutal.

lovetankThe Love Tank
10/8/13
H/S Harmonious Porcupette (Scratch, Celestial Blessing, Tranquility)
P/P Emerald Proto-Whelp (Emerald Bite, Ancient Blessing, Emerald Dream)
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)

I’m really loving the support that the Harmonious Porcupette brings with its two buffs. Almost any hard-hitting pet can benefit from these buffs to stay alive longer. The EPW is my favorite pet to use in combination with the Porcupette.

fawnFawndjango
10/20/13
P/B Infected Fawn (Flurry, Adrenaline Rush, Death and Decay)
S/S Death Adder Hatchling (Poison Fang, Puncture Wound, Blinding Poison)
P/P Son Of Animus (Metal Fist, Touch Of The Animus, Extra Plating)

Another “Touch” team. This time with the underused Infected Fawn.

MBMarionette Barry
11/1/13
S/S Fiendish Imp (Burn, Immolation, Nether Gate)
H/P Macabre Marionette (Macabre Maraca, Death and Decay, Dead Man’s Party)
H/S Tiny Twister (Wild Winds, Bash, Call Lightning)

A new twist (omg) on Lightning. I switch off between Bone Barrage and Dead Man’s Party since both are quite useful.

BICBrother in Claw
11/4/13
P/P Emperor Crab (Snap, Healing Wave, Shell Shield)
S/S Death Adder Hatchling (Poison Fang, Puncture Wound, Blinding Poison)
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)

The Emperor Crab has seen more use thanks to its ability to completely shut down Val’kyrs. The Adder is the top pet of 5.4 by far.

RRRighteous Ravaging
11/6/13
P/P Ravager Hatchling (Rend, Screech, Devour)
P/P Murkalot (Blessed Hammer, Shieldstorm, Righteous Inspiration)
P/P Crimson Geode (Spark, Amplify Magic, Elementium Bolt)

My first Murkalot team and the only one that I use anymore. RI combined with Rend and Spark is fun.

turcrabenTurcraben
11/8/13
P/S Highlands Turkey (Peck, Squawk, Food Coma)
P/P Emperor Crab (Snap, Healing Wave, Shell Shield)
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)

There’s so many useful pets out there that don’t see a lot of action, like the Turkey. After this team I started using the Turkey more often. It’s not a super strong pet on its own but it has its moments.

ak5AK 5
11/12/13
H/S Tiny Twister (Slicing Winds, Bash, Cyclone)
H/H Unborn Val’kyr (Surge, Shell Shield , Wish)
H/H Magical Crawdad (Shadow Slash, Curse Of Doom, Haunt)

Before Kovok got hit with the nerf bat my meta turned into “counter Kovok or lose”. I made a series of AK (anti-Kovok) teams. This is one that I ended up keeping and using every now and then. This team is the only team where the Val’kyr bugs out on me and doesn’t res.

ak6AK 6
11/13/13
H/P Tiny Bog Beast (Clobber, Leap, Rampage)
H/H Unborn Val’kyr (Shadow Slash, Curse Of Doom, Haunt)
H/H Magical Crawdad (Surge, Shell Shield, Wish)

I just can’t delete a successful Tiny Bog Beast team.

rainDo You Even Rain
11/20/13
S/S Jademist Dancer (Steam Vent, Rain Dance, Cleansing Rain)
H/P Blighthawk (Slicing Winds, Ghostly Bite, Cyclone)
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)

The first of my Jademist Dancer and Blighthawk combos that I use now. Cyclone buffed by Rain Dance does some serious back line damage.

turcraberTurcraber
11/22/13
P/S Highlands Turkey (Peck, Squawk, Food Coma)
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)
S/S Death Adder (Poison Fang, Puncture Wound, Blinding Poison)

More fun with the Turkey.

11/27/13
H/P Blighthawk (Slicing Winds, Ghostly Bite, Cyclone)
S/S Jademist Dancer (Steam Vent, Rain Dance, Geyser)
S/S Mongoose Pup (Gnaw, Survival, Dive)

The Mongoose Pup, one of my long time favorites, has really been useful lately due to all of the Death Adders around. Here it’s combined with the Cyclone and Rain Dance combo.

EPElectric Pickles
12/2/13
S/S Fiendish Imp (Burn, Immolation, Nether Gate)
S/S Death Adder Hatchling (Poison Fang, Puncture Wound, Blinding Poison)
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)

The best 5.4 pet with two of the all-time best PvP pets. Needless to say, this team is hard to beat.

MDCMillions Of Deer Corpses
12/3/13
P/B Infected Fawn (Flurry, Adrenaline Rush, Death and Decay)
S/S Fiendish Imp (Burn, Immolation, Nether Gate)
P/P Son Of Animus (Metal Fist, Touch Of The Animus, Extra Plating)

More heals from Touch of the Animus. I like using the Infected Fawn a lot.

dgh2Death Goose Hatchling Two
12/5/13
S/S Mongoose Pup (Gnaw, Survival, Dive)
S/S Silver Dragonhawk Hatchling (Quills, Conflagrate, Flamethrower)
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)

Two Adder counters on one team. With two pets at 1237 and 1319 hp it’s very fragile. Conflagrate plus the Dragonkin bonus hits for a decent amount.

fun guyFun Guy Three
12/17/13
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)
H/P Infected Squirrel (Stampede, Creeping Fungus, Consume)
H/P Snarly (Rip, Surge, Blood In The Water)

Eureka! I finally got it, the Infected Squirrel is really, really good. It only took me about a year to figure that one out. Snarly has become one of my favorite sweeper pets.

all buzz consAll Buzz Cons
12/21/13
H/H Fledgling Buzzard (Thrash, Adrenaline Rush, Lift)
S/S Fiendish Imp (Burn, Immolation, Nether Gate)
P/P Warbot (Missile, Minefield, Extra Plating)

The 5.3 Imp and Warbot combo is still alive and swapping. Fledgling Buzzard has gone from a “fun” pet to a pet that I use on a few really good teams. Blame the Death Adders. For everything.

acorn berserkersAcorn Berserkers
12/22/13
S/S Grizzly Squirrel (Scratch, Crouch, Nut Barrage)
H/P Infected Squirrel (Stampede, Creeping Fungus, Consume)
S/S Rabid Nut Varmint 5000 (Thrash, Extra Plating, Rabid Strike)

One of the best themed teams ever! You see it in the queue and think “oh that’s just a bunch of squirrels”. Before you know it you have rabies, fungus growing on you, nuts falling the sky and undead squirrels running all around you. Then you say “oh **** that’s a crazy bunch of squirrels”. The move load out and breed is a bit different than the daily, I’ve found the new set-up to work better.

blizzy mcrottenBlizzy McRotten
12/25/13
P/S Kun-Lai Runt (Takedown, Frost Shock, Deep Freeze)
B/B Tiny Snowman (Magic Hat, Call Blizzard, Deep Freeze)
P/P Rotten Little Helper (Ice Lance, Booby-Trapped Presents, Call Blizzard)

Using the new pet on old themed team. If Deep Freeze wasn’t 85% accuracy I’d probably use this team more.

12/30/13
H/P Snarly (Rip, Surge, Blood In The Water)
H/P Infested Bear Cub (Infected Bite, Hibernate, Maul)
S/B Pierre (Chop, Stench, Food Coma)

It’s no secret that I love bleeding teams. Pierre adds a new twist with Stench and Fodo Coma.

P/S Ominous Flame (Spiritfire Bolt, Nimbus, Foreboding Curse)
P/P Baby Ape (Smash, Clobber, Banana Barrage)
S/S Fiendish Imp (Burn, Immolation, Nether Gate)

Fun with the Ominous Flame and DoTs.

P/S Yu’la (Jadefire Lightning, Celestial Blessing, Life Exchange)
H/P Blackfuse Bombling (Zap, Flame Jet, Armageddon)
H/P Snarly (Rip, Surge, Blood In The Water)

An AoE team, but not quite all AoE. Life Exchange is an interesting move. Snarly again cleans up the messes.

1/4/14
S/S Darkmoon Rabbit (Huge Sharp Teeth!, Dodge, Burrow)
H/P Snarly (Rip, Surge, Blood In The Water)
H/P Infested Bear Cub (Diseased Bite, Hibernate, Maul)

I finally got the DMR that I always wanted. Totally worth the 53k.

1/8/14
S/S Fiendish Imp (Burn, Immolation, Nether Gate)
P/P Warbot (Missile, Minefield, Extra Plating)
P/P Stunted Direhorn (Trihorn Charge, Stampede, Trihorn Shield)

Now that 5.3 is gone I’ve found a good use for a Direhorn.

1/9/14
S/S Jademist Dancer (Steam Vent, Rain Dance, Acid Rain)
H/P Blighthawk (Slicing Winds, Ghostly Bite, Cyclone)

P/P Droplet Of Y’Shaarj (Corrosion, Acid Rain, Dreadful Breath)
H/H Scourged Whelpling (Tail Sweep, Darkness, Dreadful Breath)
H/P Snarly (Rip, Surge, Blood In The Water)

I had low expectations when I bought the Droplet but it turned out to be a really fun pet. Whoa, there’s Snarly again. Is he my new Spirit Crab? Nothing shall ever replace the Crab!

1/14/14
H/H Fledgling Buzzard (Thrash, Adrenaline Rush, Lift)
P/P Warbot (Missile, Minefield, Extra Plating)

I got tired of losing to Death Adders on my new battlegroup. There’s that H/H Buzzard again.

P/P Emerald Shale Hatchling (Burn, Poison Spit, Stoneskin)
P/P Sen’Jin Fetish (Shadow Shock, Immolate, Sear Magic)

P/P Sen’Jin Fetish (Shadow Slash, Immolate, Sear Magic)
P/P Warbot (Missile, Minefield, Extra Plating)
S/S Fiendish Imp (Burn, Immolation, Nether Gate)

I made this team awhile ago but never “promoted” it to this page. Lately it’s been seeing a lot more action so it’s earned the right to become a permanent fixture here.

Another Minefield and swap team, this time with some anti-Adder capabilities. I used this team on my old meta, deleted it, then remade it for the new meta where it has come in handy.

That’s it for now, I may add more “keepers” later to my 5.4 list. I’m still using some of my 5.0 – 5.3 teams. Check them out below. I decided to keep the following part as it was in 5.3 rather than reorganize everything.

***5.3 and previous***
anywhere 38Here’s a list of teams that I’m either using now or have used in the past with reasonable success. I didn’t include all the move load outs, I figure if people want to try the teams out they should experiment with them. If you really want to know what I use then feel free to leave a comment below or shoot me an email.

The teams are organized into 4 sections:
I. Top Flight
II. Second Tier
III. The Regulars
IV. Retired Teams

I. Top Flight
anywhere 34These are my “go-to” teams at the moment. When I want a win I queue up with these teams. I expect to win with them. Of course I don’t always win with them, but they have very high win rates.

P/P Warbot
H/P Snarly
H/P Infested Bear Cub

One of the best teams that I’ve come up with in awhile. After completing

II. Second Tier
anywhere 33The teams in this section are competitive, but for one reason or another I don’t feel as confident when it comes to winning as my top flight teams. Maybe there’s a glaring weakness towards a certain family or weather. They still rack up the wins, just not as much as the top flight teams. If I had to put a number to it I’d say they win around 80%.

luckypierreLucky Pierre
H/P Snarly
H/P Infected Bear Cub
H/P Gilded Moth

I was trying out the Moth to go along with the awesome Bleed combo and remembered it’s just a bit too rng dependent for me. Their tryout session is at Tryouts #4.

Bring Out The Impbring dot
S/S Fiendish Imp
H/H Scourged Whelpling
H/H Fel Flame

My main DoT team. Immolation, Death and Decay, Immolate, Flame Breath. Combine these with Plagued Blood from the Scourged Whelpling and you have some crazy healing going on here. Nether Gate adds some versatility with the forced swap.

Spudboy’s Pleasurespud
H/H Spirit Crab
H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
P/P Sen’Jin Fetish

If you told me that a team with a Sen’Jin Fetish on it would win so many of its games I would have laughed. Until I tried it. Sear really takes people by surprise when you Cleanse their DoTs and nukes in one easy click. Has some serious kick to its Shadow Slash (394 damage @ 90% accuracy). Named after my lowbie Horde mage.

Big Baddiesbadd redo

How can I be a Worgen and not use the Lil’ Bad Wolf. This speedy team can actually do some decent damage with Ice Tomb and Howl.

S/S Enchanted Broom
P/P Sen’Jin Fetish

frank rFrank Rizzo
P/P Son Of Animus
S/S Fiendish Imp
S/S Black Rat

Touch Of The Animus is turning out to be one of my favorite moves. You can knock out some serious healing with this underused move. And I’m really liking my Rat lately. 341 speed, a DoT, Survival, this Critter rocks. The fact that playing this team made me think of a Jerky Boys character I haven’t heard in over a decade is a testament to the wackiness of the human mind. Or at least my human mind.

H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling

A part of my ongoing effort to find a perfect third for the Warbot and the Imp. The Basilisk wasn’t the solution, but it’s a good team. Check out Tryouts #5 for more info.

III. The Regulars
anywhere 41So they’re not top flight or even second tier teams, why should I (or you) use them? Because pet battling is fun and it’s not always about the win. There’s something satisfying about putting a team together with an interesting plan and seeing that plan work. Maybe it won’t work every time against every opponent but it’s fun to try. Or maybe I just want to make a team of all green pets for the hell of it. That’s what the teams in this section are. Don’t worry, some of them are actually good!

Acid Bathacid 1 redo
P/S Corefire Imp
P/P Jade Oozeling
H/P Shimmershell Snail

A few DoTs is ok. A few DoTs plus Wild Magic kills you fast. My poor little Corefire Imp was played regularly before 5.3 and the introduction of the Fiendish Imp. He was replaced on most Imp teams, but not this one thanks to his Wild Magic.

Acid Wannabeacid 2 redo
S/S Fiendish Imp
P/P Jade Oozeling
H/P Shimmershell Snail

Doesn’t kill people as fast as the above team, but the speed and forced swap (Nether Gate) makes it an interesting team.

Acid Wrathacid 3 redo
S/S Fiendish Imp
P/P Sen’Jin Fetish
H/P Shimmershell Snail

Not much of an acid theme going on here anymore, but the Snail still has corrosion and the Fetish has Wild Magic.

S/S Mr. Bigglesworth

Triple Undead. That’s a lot of extra turns.

Bird Is The Wordbird redo
P/S Warpstalker Hatchling
S/S Robo-Chick
S/S Fiendish Imp

What can I say, I hate fighting birds. So much so that I made an anti bird team. I have rarely seen anyone but myself use a Warpstalker Hatchling in PvP. Probably because they aren’t that good. It is the only pet with Warp Strike, a priority Magic attack. Great for those speedy birds, not that great in general. The Robo-Chick is there because 325 speed x 2 (Overtune) will outspeed any Flier.

Bleeding Blightbleed blight redo
H/P Blighted Squirrel
H/P Infested Bear Cub
H/P Snarly

Snarly and the Infested Bear Cub are the core of my Bleeding teams with Rip, Blood In The Water, and Maul. I fill in the 3rd slot with either another pet to apply the Bleeding effect or another pet that benefits from Bleeding. In this case the Blighted Squirrel can apply Bleeding with Woodchipper. Probably the least successful of my Bleed teams.

Bleeding Shockbleed shock redo
B/B Electrified Razortooth
H/P Infested Bear Cub
H/P Snarly

Two Blood in The Waters. This team was ridiculous before the Razortooth was nerfed by removing its root. Root then Rip then Blood in The Water. Still a great team, although looking at the B/B makes me cringe.

Bleeding Trapbl trap
P/P Curious Wolvar PuP
H/P Infested Bear Cub
H/P Snarly

I used to think this was my top flight Bleeding Team until it came in last place in 50 Battles: Bleeding . I realized then that the Trap is based on too much luck. I seriously hate facing traps. It’s sitting there for nine rounds and you have no idea when it’s going to mess up your strategy. It can go off at the right time and be a game changer, or go off at the wrong time and be a waste.

Blizzy Gozongasblizz go
B/B Winter’s Little Helper
P/S Kun-Lai Runt
B/B Tiny Snowman

Pretty common Blizzard team. One of only two teams with a Kun-Lai runt on it, I’m not a big fan of that pet after its overuse in 5.2 when it was bugged.

Blizzy McTundrablizz mc
H/P Tundra Penguin
P/S Kun-Lai Runt
B/B Tiny Snowman

Nothing exciting here, just some Slippery Ice. This is one of those teams gathering dust. Ever since base hit and dodge were removed it just feels wrong to bring it back like Slippery Ice’s accuracy debuff does.

bluedownBlue Downgrade
P/P Nexus Whelpling
P/S Arcane Eye
P/B Tiny Blue Carp

I wanted a Tiny Blue Carp for awhile to make this team.  It’s a total down grade from my more competitive Arcane Winds teams.  But who doesn’t like three Mana Surges on one team?

Blue Flagblue flag
P/P Nexus Whelpling
P/S Arcane Eye
P/P Azure Whelpling

Mana surge and Arcane Storm can be a crazy combo, if it hits. This team is relies heavily on weather so faces big problems when it’s changed. Two dragonkin on the same team isn’t such a good idea with all the humanoids around.

Blue Hawksblue h
P/P Nexus Whelpling
H/H Blighthawk
H/P Blighthawk

This time the Arcane Storm is so Ghostly Bite wont stun the Blighthawks.

Blue Weirdosblue wei
P/P Nexus Whelpling
H/P Blighthawk
P/S Mini Mindslayer

The Mindslayer is kind of… weird. I have bad habit of leaving my Mindslayer in as my last pet, but he only has one attack (the other moves are a heal/attack and a buff). Have to sit there and skip a turn. Otherwise Mana Surge hits hard in an Arcane Storm.

Bring Out The DoTbring d
P/S Corefire Imp
H/H Scourged Whelpling
H/H Fel Flame

This used to be my “Bring out the Imp” team until I replace the Corefire Imp with the Fiendish Imp. One of my best teams, ever. What this team has going for it my main DoT doesn’t is Wild Magic. Wild Magic can actually get a DoT team past a Sandstorm team if played well.

botrBring Out The Rat
S/S Fiendish Imp
H/H Scourged Whelpling
S/S Black Rat

Another DoT team, this time with my lovely Black Rat. It’s fast, has a DoT and has Survival.

H/H Pebble

Pebble is a good addition to my DoT team with Rock Barrage Interacting so well with Plagued Blood.

Crabby Smackercrab smac
H/H Spirit Crab
H/S Scalded Basilisk
P/P Crimson Geode

Smacking people in the face for 1.3k with the Geode is fun.

Crybunnycrybun
H/H Spirit Crab
S/S Hare
P/P Crimson Geode

Same team as above, I just gave up some attack for some extra speed and mitigation in the bunny. I love my Basilisk but sometimes 305 speed just isn’t enough. It is scary running a critter these days when so many people are using Direhorns.

Crystal Castlecrystal castle
H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
S/S Enchanted Broom
S/S Mongoose

Another one of my old standbys. With such a low health pool any mistakes can be catastrophic. Luckily this team has some tricks to keep it alive: Crystal Prison, Feign Death, Dive, and Survival. The Mongoose has too much speed, 374 speed is only good for killing rabbits. I will sometimes use the 357 speed Mongoose Pup in it’s place, but I hate to break up one of my favorite teams! Take a look at Battle Analysis #1: Crystal Castle for a detailed analysis of this team in a single battle.

Curiously Strongcur str
S/S Arctic Hare

I like the combination of a Warbot and Curious Wolvar Pup so I can put out a Trap and a Minefield together. It just looks frightening.

dill meisDill Meisters

P/P Lil’ Ragnaros
S/S Arctic Hare
H/H Spirit Crab

So I finally got tired of being abused by Traps and decided to share the abuse with others. It turns out that Traps are a little too random for my liking. Any victory due to a lucky trap feels…lucky.

P/S Gilnean Raven

I bought a Spectral Porcupette and this team is a great fit for it. But just like the Trap team above, most wins feel like lucky wins rather than strategically earned wins.

Eighty Twoflyteam4
H/P Shrine Fly
P/P Warbot
H/P Gilded Moth

A couple of Fliers with some weak coverage for them.

fiveorsixFive Or Six
H/H Scourged Whelpling
H/H Spirit Crab
P/P Sen’Jin Fetish

Triple Undead used to be all the rage, this team is one of my teams trying it. I might get six extra turns from the Undead racial but sometimes the Fetish is faster than opposing pets with its blazing 260 speed.

Hai Gaizhai
H/P Gilded Moth
P/P Jade Oozeling
S/S Alpine Hare

When Moth hits its Sleep, it’s hard to get past. Luckily the Sleep has a low hit rate.

Heavy Supportheav
H/H Anubisath Idol
P/P Stunted Direhorn
P/P Purple Puffer

This was originally an anti-Sandstorm team, but using an aquatic versus Sandstorm isn’t too bright of an idea. All the attacks put up big numbers, none of those pesky multi-attacks.

Jurassic Threejur3
P/P Diemetradon Hatchling
H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
P/P Stunted Dierhorn

Dinosaurs!

Jurassic Twojur2
P/P Diemetradon Hatchling
H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
H/H Fel Flame

Replaced the Stunted Direhorn with some coverage for the beasts.

phabPhantastic Pheigns
H/H Spirit Crab
P/P Warbot
S/S Mulgore Hatchling

Yet another Feign Death team.  Powerful buddies included.

Phenomenal Pheignsteampic9
H/H Spirit Crab
S/S Fiendish Imp
S/S Mulgore Hatchling

The Mulgore Hatchling is one of the few pets who can Feign Death, a very handy move in PvP.

Pheremone Pheignsflyteam10
H/P Shrine Fly
P/P Warbot
S/S Mulgore Hatchling

Another Mulgore Hatchling team to do a decent job when put to the test.

Pho Queuemoonteams2
H/P Infected Squirrel
H/S Fubgal Abomination
S/S Nether Fairie Dragon

Pho since the Abomination hits like a wet noodle.

Pick Yer Poisonpick
P/P Warbot
P/P Curious Wolvar Pup
S/S Mongoose Pup

One time I had a minefield and trap out while my Mongoose was waiting to come up from a Dive. Good times.

Remembering rem
P/P Jade Oozeling
S/S Flayer Youngling
H/P Gilded Moth

Remembering the early days of pet battles when I saw a lot more of these pets. I actually didn’t catch on to the Oozeling until later than most. Sometimes I can be stubborn when I don’t come up with a good idea myself.

son sanSon Of Sanford
H/H Fel Flame
H/H Scourged Whelpling
P/P Son Of Animus

Another team based around Touch Of The Animus. You can see how this team fared in 5 Battles: Son Of Sanford.

stuffStuff That Flies
H/H Fledgling Buzzard
H/P Blighthawk
P/S Jade Owl

A old themed team of mine that wins some games here and there.

the good fightThe Good Fight
S/S Robo-Chick
S/S Mongoose Pup
P/P Diemetradon Hatchling

Using underused wild pets makes me cool. Either that or it makes me lose more often. While not top tier, this team does okay. I really like the model of the Diemetradon. Note to self: make more Diemetradon teams.

the usualsThe Usuals
S/S Robo-Chick
H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
H/H Spirit Crab

I’m already using this team less than I thought I would. A fun team nevertheless.

To The Moonmoonteams9
H/P Infected Squirrel
S/S Fiendish Imp
S/S Nether Fairie Dragon

Two good synergies with Moonlight.

Triple Ionstrip i
H/P Darkmoon Tonk
H/B Tranquil Mechanical Yeti
H/P Mengerie Custodian

A team in response to all the people who run triple Direhorns.

tripthreaterTriple Threater
P/P Sunreaver Micro-Sentry
S/S Cogblade Raptor
S/S Robo-Chick

I replaced my Yeti with the Sunreaver Micro-Sentry for my triple Mechanical team. It’s still not that good of a team.

Triple Threat 2trip t 2
S/S Alpine Hare
S/S Arctic Hare
H/S Tolai Hare

Okay, you caught me. Occasionally I run triple bunnies. I blame all the people who run triple undead.

IV. Retired Teams
anywhere 3These teams have been deleted for one reason or another. Usually it’s because they’re not seeing enough action and I need to make room for new teams that I’m trying out. Some are just obsolete, like counters to teams no one runs anymore.

Annoyingannoy redo
S/S Peddlefeet
P/S Wild Golden Hatchling
S/S Cogblade Raptor

Lightning + Cyclone + spmming Rapid Fire is, well, annoying. Cogblade Raptor cleans up. If he ends up 1v1 with their last pet apply Exposed Wounds and watch a quick death.

Anti-Darknessanti D redo
P/B Kirin Tor Familiar
H/S Ruby Sapling
P/S Mini Mindslayer

Really it could be called Anti-Raven, but on my meta the two go hand in hand. The Familiar and the Sapling are two fairly uncommon pets in PvP, but they are elementals with Magic and Critter attacks. Magic for the Ravens and critter for the all too common Ghostly Skull in the Darkness comps. The Mindslayer is there for some heavy damage, remember the Familiar can change the weather to Arcane Storm (also good vs. Darkness) which will benefit the Mindslayer’s Mana Surge.

Anti-Lightninganti L redo
H/H Lava Crab
H/H Fel Flame
B/B Crimson Lasher

Lava crab for shields and AoE (Magma Wave). Even though he’s an H/H breed, Conflagrate on the Fel Flame still packs a punch. Really any third elemental will do, I just throw in the Crimson Lasher because it has a DoT and I like the model. If only it came in a better breed.

Anti-Rabbitanti rab redo
S/S Mongoose
H/H Fledgling Buzzard
H/H Anubisath Idol

Someone (other than myself :P) on my meta likes to run triple rabbits. The S/S Mongoose was made for destroying rabbits with its 374 speed and Gnaw (beast attack). If the Mongoose dies the Anubisath Idol with Stoneskin will laugh at the stupid bunny and its weak attacks. I use Stoneskin instead of Sandstorm because Sandstorm will also shut down the Fledgling Buzzard’s Claw. The Buzzard is overkill for rabbits, but what can I say, they’re that annoying.

Anti-Sandstormanti sand redo
H/H Anubisath Idol
P/P Stunted Direhorn
H/H Spirit Crab

Seeing a lot of Sandstorm? Take this 3x shielded team and hope they cast Sandstorm. Double shielding for everyone! Strong enough attacks to break through the Sandstorm. Again take Stoneskin on the Idol.

aqua chicksAqua Chicks
S/S Robo-Chick
H/S Mirror Strider
P/P Emperor Crab

I replaced my Purple Puffer on my Aqua Teens team with the Chick for 50 Battles: Robo-Chick . The team did okay so I decided to keep it around for a battle now and then.

bandibootBandibot
S/S Bandicoon Kit
H/P Gilded Moth
P/P Warbot

It seems like wherever there is a Warbot there are a lot of wins.

Bleeding Mechanicbleed mech redo
H/P Anodized Robo Cub
H/P Infested Bear Cub
H/P Snarly

Threw in the Robo Cub with Maul. Seems like this would be a good tanky team with Hibernate on the Bear Cub and Repair on the Robo cub, but it never seems to work out. There’s always a good reason to NOT use these multi-turn moves. I guess I’m just more careful than most with multi-turn moves, they’re just so easy to exploit in PvP.

Bleeding Nutsbleed nuts redo
S/S Grizzly Squirrel
H/P Infested Bear Cub
H/P Snarly

Threw in a little speed in the form of a fast Squirrel with Woodchipper. Hasn’t performed as well as the other teams, but I like the diversity.

Bob Shieldsbob s
H/H Anubisath Idol
P/P Emperor Crab
H/H Spirit Crab

Shields for everybody.

Bobbie Shieldsbobbie s
H/H Anubisath Idol
P/P Emperor Crab
P/B Feline Familiar

This time there’s a cat… with a shield.

bob jBob Junior
H/H Spirit Crab
P/P Emperor Crab
H/H Spirit Crab

Sometimes you just feel like playing it safe and having the protection of shields for all of your pets. (Translation: sometimes you just want to take one of the best pets in the game an make an excuse for using two of them.)

Conflagcon
S/S Red Dragonhawk Hatchling
P/P Harbinger of Flame
S/S Phoenix Hatchling

The one Conflagrate team I kept after the nerf. I like this one the most because it has some speed in it.

Curiously Fastercur fas
S/S Arctic Hare
P/P Curious Wolvar Pup
S/S Clockwork Rocket Bot

Just like the team above but with a speedier Minefield layer.

Darknessdark
S/S Gilnean Raven
P/B Feline Familiar
P/S Dark Whelpling

Sigh, Darkness. I really don’t like adding more randomness to the battle. But let’s face it, Darkness is a good counter to healing teams. I think I dislike Crawdads more than I dislike Ravens, so I keep this team around for them.

Dino Dorknessdino dork
P/S Gilnean Raven
P/P Stunted Direhorn
H/P Great Horned Owl

Replaced the Skull in the team below with a Direhorn. This is more of a Direhorn sniping team than a true Darkness team.

Dorknessdorkness
P/S Gilnean Raven
H/P Ghostly Skull
H/P Great Horned Owl

The Great Horned Owl was the first Flying pet that I used a stone on, it was great using Predatory Strike before it was nerfed. After that the only place I could find a fit was using Nocturnal Strike in Darkness.

Double the Pleasuredouble
P/S Crawling Claw
H/P Ghostly Skull
P/P Stunted Direhorn

The powerful undead racial times two plus arguably the most powerful pet in the game right now. And a forced swap from the Claw, albeit a slow now.

Dragon Lightningdrag light
P/S Wild Golden Hatchling
H/H Fel Flame
H/S Ruby Sapling

I spent a lot of time searching for a rare Ruby Sapling in the days before stones and wanted to put it to good use. This was what I came up with. The elementals are immune to the Lightning and cast DoTs.

Fairly Commonmoonteams1
H/P Infected Squirrel
S/S Sporeling Sprout
S/S Nether Fairie Dragon

Probably the most common Moonlight team, I couldn’t get it to work too well when testing Moonlight, played it some more and both did well and liked using it.

Fastiesfast
S/S Arctic Hare
S/S Mongoose
S/S Molten Hatchling

While writing this it became clear to me that I don’t have enough Molten Hatchling teams. This team is fast.

Fasties Lightfast

S/S Arctic Hare
S/S Mongoose Pup
S/S Molten Hatchling

Replaced the often unnecessary 374 speed Mongoose with a 357 speed Mongoose Pup.

Fountain Of Filthfount

H/P Infected Squirrel

S/S Black Rat

A themed team that ended up winning quite a few battles. So dirty!

Put up the DoTs and Swarm.

Immolointment 2flyteam2

H/P Pandaren Earth Spirit
H/P Wolpertinger
H/P Fjord Worg Pup

Put up Dazzling Dance and hope it you can do some damage and get some stuns in before it wears off. A lot of swapping required to be successful.

Prodigal Flayerprod
P/P Stunted Direhorn
S/S Flayer Youngling
H/P Gilded Moth

The Flayer was once one of my favorite pets with Reflect, but unfortunately Reflect was overpowered and buggy so it was taken off the table. In 5.3 Kick got a buff so I decided to bring this guy back. Not as powerful as it once was, but still can win some battles.

roastgriefRoast Grief

I know it’s legitimate gameplay but Sons causes a lot of grief.

Rock Storm Anthemflyteam8

H/H Pebble

Pebble is a really great addition to a Lightning Team with a DoT and weather immunity.

S/S Robo-Chick

Dunno what I was thinking when I put this team together, but it seems to work well.

Screenshot Deathsquadscreen
S/S Molten Hatchling
H/H Minfernal
H/H Fel Flame

I thought this team would look cool for screenshots, it won all of its games barely trying. Mostly because no one could take down the Molten Hatching. Burst it down and I’m left with a Minfernal >.< But it’s a fun team.

Silithus Verminsil
P/P Emerald Proto-Whelp
H/H Silithid Hatchling
H/H Anubisath Idol

This exists for the sole purpose of using my Silithid Hatchling. A Sandstorm team is the best fit for it.

Stallersstal
H/H Stone Armadillo
H/H Anubisath Idol
H/H Magical Crawdad

Another dusty team that I keep around. I’ve never been a huge fan of stalling, but I like using pets that don’t see much PvP action like the Stone Armadillo.

H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling

Thurston Howlthur
H/P Stitched Pup
B/B Blossoming Ancient
S/S Hopling

The Blossoming Ancient puts down a Stun Seed, swap to the Pup who Howls to double the damage. Stun Seed can be replaced by any nuke. Hopling was just thrown in because he’s a fun pet that I don’t use much.

Toni’s Angelstonis
H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
S/S Enchanted Broom
P/S Giant Bone Spider

The team that got me into forced swapping.

H/H Scourged Whelpling

My first attempt at a Dreadful Breath team, it was quite fun and did well.

Triple Threattrip threat
H/B Tranquil Mechanical Yeti

S/S Bandicoon
H/P Gilded Moth
H/H Crab

Another team that went to eleven.

Ultra Beastlyu beast
S/S Fiendish Imp
H/S Basilisk
P/P Stunted Direhorn

Two of the most powerful pets in the current meta: the Imp and the Direhorn. I use these when I’m feeling lazy. I had a whole “Ultra” series after I got my Stunted Direhorn, but I deleted most of them because they were just too easymode.

Ultra Moldyu mold
S/S Fiendish Imp
H/P Tiny Bog Beast
P/P Stunted Direhorn

Fun to let the two powerful pets carry the underused Bog Beast.

Ultra Walkmanultra w
S/S Fiendish Imp

P/P Stunted Direhorn

Arguably the best Aquatic thrown in with the big guys.

Why Keep Thismoonteams8
H/H Scourged Whelpling
H/H Magical Crawdad
H/S Emerald Whelpling

I was about to delete this team from my list. I didn’t. Why? I don’t know, maybe if I can get over my dislike of the Crawdad I’ll use it. I think probably not, it’ll get chucked the next round of “housekeeping”.

Wisp Teamwisp
S/S Nordrassil Wisp
P/P Emperor Crab
H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling

This team has done well because of the Crab and Basilisk, there’s really not a lot of Synergy going on with the Wisp.  I must have been feeling extremely creative when I named this team.

World Class Wreckin Cruteampic7
H/H Spirit Crab
H/P Shrine Fly
H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling

Named in honor of Dr. Dre’s 80’s group who did a song called “The Fly”.

Wounded Lightningwoun
P/S Wild Golden Hatchling
H/H Fel Flame
S/S Cogblade Raptor

Putting up Lightning + Exposed Wounds and then Batter is brutal. Not many people will let you do that, but when they do it’s some big numbers.

Zero Win Greeniemoonteams7
H/S Emerald Boa
H/H Emerald Shale Hatching
H/S Emerald Proto Whelp

So far the only team I’ve done battle logs that had zero wins. I will keep it around for when I feel like a challenge. Not a competitive team, repeat, not a competitive team.

I like the new format. I’m not sure if you noticed, but all but one of your top teams have minefield in them.

  2. ludacritzz says:

your top flight team is pretty good. i use 2 of the 3…snarly and infested bear cub, but i use either celestial dragon with those 2 or emporer crab. Snarly and infested bear cub is such a lethal combo, you can use pretty much anything with them and wreck.

    • Discodoggy says:

Yeah I sure do love these pets as a team. Pretty much any third pet that has a little bit of synergy will do well. My latest third has been an Arctic Hare, but its been surprisingly not doing as well as I thought it would. Maybe my rabbit skills are rusty.

  3. Tivamo says:

What am I missing about the Warbot/Snarly/Infested Bear team? I’ve tried maybe 30 PvP matches and while it’s decent, it’s really underwhelming at times. The whole comp relies so much on switching that, when combined with the lack of defensives, it’s just mediocre imo. Snarly is slow, so isn’t able to get reliable bleeds on multiple pets, and minefield is such a one tricky pony.

You sound so convinced about the superiority of this team that I must be missing something obvious…

    • Discodoggy says:

What moves are you using? For this team I use:

Warbot – Missile, Minefield, Extra Plating
Snarly – Rip, Surge, Blood In The Water
Infested Bear Cub- Infected Bite, Hibernate, Maul

The general plan is to get the Minefield down then swap to Snarly for the Rip / Blood In The Water combo. Besides Extra Plating there is a lack of defense on this team, it’s more about taking the enemy out quick.

What types of teams did you play against?

  4. Tivamo says:

Those are the precise movesets I used. I’ve lost against a wide variety of teams (it’s not for lack of experience). I open w/ warbot and drop minefield, then go for Snarly & the Bear as described. The issue is that I can get 1 surefire minefield down to start, but sometimes I can only get 1 bleed from Snarly. he’s so slow that switching him back in to get a bleed up on a 2nd pet frequently ends in death.

My most recent loss was to Idol/KLR/Darkmoon Zep. Idol alone had all 3 of my pets down to ~50% or less due to the swapping. Yeah, there’s some RNG involved, but this comp always seems to barely win when it does win, and lose rather ugly when it loses.

    • Tivamo says:

Sorry, meant to reply to your reply and not start a new post. Just got SMOKED by Idol.

My go to team last patch (and before finding this site) was Scourged Whelp + Corefire Imp + Fiendish Imp. That comp was reliably so so so much stronger and could beat just about anything outside of a well played shield heavy team.

      • Discodoggy says:

Idols are pretty tough for any team. After you initially posted I tried this team again and went 13-4-1. Two of the losses were to Idols and two of the losses were to Moths hitting their Sleep. That record isn’t as good as this team did in 5.3 but this team still does pretty good on my meta. Sorry it didn’t work for you on yours.

      • Discodoggy says:

I forgot to mention that my current go-to team is Unborn Val’kyr, Fiendish Imp, and Warbot. Another team that’s doing really well for me is the Dandelion Frolicker, Death Adder Hatchling, and either Spirit Crab or Val’kyr. I should probably update this page soon to reflect the 5.4 teams.

        • Tivamo says:

That’s a rock solid comp, and thanks for the responses. I’m not trying to antagonize or talk down, I’m simply trying to figure out what works for someone who has clearly put a lot of thought into things. I appreciate your site a lot. :)

          Cheers!

          • Discodoggy says:

No problem, I’m glad that you brought your experience to light. I really need to make a note explaining that I haven’t updated this page for 5.4. I think I’ll do that now.

  5. Wally says:

I’m not having much look with Snarly. He repeatedly gets his ass handed to him with all comps. I really like the Undead cub though and the Minefield in your “A” team.

    • Discodoggy says:

Snarly took a big step down in the beginning of 5.4. I think one of the reasons that the Snarly/Infested Bear combo did so well in 5.3 because of their effectiveness against Direhorns. When Direhorns went away they were no longer such a great team. What’s funny is now that Kovok teams are running rampant I’ve been using Snarly again with a lot of success. The Ripalot team I used on November 10th is doing really well overall, especially against Kovoks.

  6. Wally says:

Just read your comments. I’m excited to see you’re using some newer pets. I’d love to see some of your teams/strats with Celestial pets or other Timeless Isle pets.

  7. Snow says:

Well the aquatic racial buff was better than expected with kovok being so powerful. They’ve basically gone out of their way to encourage players to use aquatics with valk and kovok.

  8. Harrleigh says:

So, after a few miserable attempts at max level pvp pet battles way back when, I pretty much gave up on the idea of doing the pvp battles and stuck with hunting wild pets and doing the trainer dailies. But now, with my guild on a hiatus from raiding until the new xpac, and the fact that I’m just bored to death with mop content in general, I’ve decided to take another stab at the pvp pet battles. I just wanted to say how great this website is, especially your list of teams that you use regularly. While I attempt to do some research in my free time about how to put my own teams together, I’ve been trying out a few of your teams and have had great success with them!

    • Discodoggy says:

Thanks and welcome back to PvPing. What teams have you been having success with? I need to update this page since I have a lot of new teams that haven’t been added yet.

      • Harrleigh says:

The two that I’ve had the most success with are the jademist dancer/blighthawk/snarly team and the val’k/fiendish imp/warbot team. I’ve played around with a couple of others, but I can’t remember which ones specifically at the moment.

  9. Necroshade says:

    Hey Doggy :)

First of all, let me tell you that I really enjoy your work with this website and the inspiration you provide for me and all the pet battlers out there :) My question might not fit into the “My Teams” category but I did not find a way to contact you personally (too bad the official blizz forums don’t provide a PM option). My question concerns the ruby droplet (yeah, I’m aware of your opinion about stall pets :D) and which breed tends to be the best in most cases. I guess it’s a close match between H/H and H/S, but unfortunately there is nothing but a single L/B breed available in the AH for weeks :( So I started camping Garnia und finally got my hands on an H/H version, but I don’t know if an H/S could be superior. I’m very curious about your opinion.

I hope you got a sec between all the battles you are doing to reply :)
    Keep the good work up!

    Greetings from Germany :)

    • Discodoggy says:

I haven’t used or even faced a lot of Ruby Droplets so I’m not really an expert on that pet. Here’s my opinion anyways…

I would stick with the H/H. If your meta is anything like mine then the fast pets are all above 325 and there are a lot of slow pets (less than 260). You’re going to be faster than the slow and slower than the fast with either 260 speed or 289 speed. What this means to me is that the 289 speed of the H/S may not be worth giving up 179 hp. If you face a lot of medium speed pets it may be worth it to go with the 289 speed, but it still seems like a toss up. I don’t think either breed really stands out as the best so you might as well use the one that you have.

If it had a stun I would try to get every last drop of speed that I could, but it doesn’t.

Check out 5/26/14 for some analysis of the speeds of many of the common pets.

      Hope that helped.
