Today’s Team: You Got Goosed
H/P Blighthawk (Slicing Winds, Ghostly Bite, Cyclone)
S/S Jademist Dancer (Steam Vent, Rain Dance, Geyser)
S/S Mongoose Pup (Gnaw, Survival, Dive)

Strategy:
The plan is to put up a Cyclone then increase its hit and crit chance with Rain Dance. This simple strategy is surprisingly potent. Cyclone goes from having a 35% chance of hitting to an 85% chance, plus a 50% crit chance each time it connects. Besides the Cyclone strategy both the Blighthawk and the Dancer have hard hitting moves in Ghostly Bite and Steam Vent. Often when I come up with good duos like the Blighthawk and Jademist dancer I throw in a fun pet as a third. The Mongoose has been one of my favorite pets for a long time. Not only is it fun to use, it’s actually quite viable with a decent move set and fast stat allocation. With all the Val’kyrs out there it never hurts having an aquatic in your pocket.

Concerns:
I’ve been over using the Rain Dance and Cyclone combo, people are going to come up with better ways of countering it if I continue beating them with it.

The Opposing Team:
H/H Unborn Val’kyr
S/S Lil’ Bling
B/B Electrified Razortooth
An Unborn Val’kyr? That’s odd!

The Battle:
112713BI thought my opponent would start with the Val’kyr and they did. I started with my Mongoose. Most Val’kyrs start with a Curse so I decided to Dive. The Curse missed, good call. My Dive hit then the Val’kyr Haunted my Mongoose. The ticks were only going to hit for around 50 weak damage, not bad. The Razortooth was next up. I used Gnaw as it put up a Lightning shield. I then swapped to my Blighthawk so I could save the Mongoose for more Haunts. The Blighthawk took a Rip on the swap then a Blood In The Water afterwards while it got off a Cyclone. There was no point in swapping now since the DoT from rip might kill my Blighthawk on the back line. I kept the Blighthawk in and damaged the Razortooth with Slicing Winds until the undead round. My opponent swapped to the Val’kyr as I used my Ghostly Bite, which connected.

112713AI brought in the Mongoose to Gnaw and get Haunted. Fine, if you want to keep Haunting my aquatic then go for it. The Razortooth was back, my Mongoose Gnawed then took a Rip. Next it used Dive which made the Blood In The Water miss. Thankfully the 80% Dive connected again to finish off the Razortooth. Out came Lil’ Bling. I had to time when to use my Survival; I decided not to use it until next round. Unfortunately, the Blingtron Gift Package crit to kill my Mongoose. That was a huge turn around because it cost me two turns of damage thanks to not being able to use Survival.

112713EI brought out the Dancer and things looked bleak. The Unborn Val’kyr had resurrected and Lil’ Bling was not close to dying. I don’t like using Steam Vent without the buff from Rain Dance but I was going to have to take some risks in order to pull it off. Two 80% Steam Vents hit in a row, one on the swap to the Val’kyr and one to take the Val’kyr to 0 hp. Its Shadow Slash missed. All of the sudden I’m right back in it. It Haunted my Dancer as it put down a Geyser then out came Lil’ Bling. Damn that Gift Package, now it missed and healed Lil’ Bling as the Dancer cast Rain Dance. Bling had to take my Dancer out with weak damage. A Steam Vent, a Steam Vent crit and a Geyser eruption took Lil’ Bling to 0, a final 80% Steam Vent hit him while he was stunned for the win. I hit five out of five 80% moves and saw a crucial end of game Shadow Slash miss so my win was somewhat lucky. I’ll take it.
