Mini Tryouts: Retaliating Ten
P/P Sen’Jin Fetish (Shadow Slash, Immolate, Sear Magic)
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)
S/S Mongoose Pup (Gnaw, Survival, Dive)

My “retaliating” group of teams are all made to counter the top pets on my meta. Unborn Val’kyrs, Death Adders and Idols are my biggest concerns. Imps and KLRs are quite common so the Sen’Jin Fetish will come in handy against those. The voodoo mask counters Unborn Val’kyrs and Death Adders by being able to cleanse Haunt, Curse Of Doom and Blinding Poison. It’s particularly fun to cleanse all of those in one fell swoop. The Mongoose Pup is also good against both the Unborn Val’kyr and the Death Adder. I added the Spirit Crab to this team for some hp and just because it’s good in general. There’s no set strategy with this team, I’m just going to play off of the other team’s strategies by countering what I think they will do.

Battle 1
vs. Mr. Bigglesworth, Kun-Lai Runt, Ruby Droplet
The KLR was a P/P so I started with the Mongoose Pup. That way I could Dive if Bigglesworth started with an Ice Tomb or I could Dive if I got chilled. 357 speed will still out speed a P/P KLR when chilled. It was the KLR that started. As planned I cast Dive on the turn that Deep Freeze was used. I kept the Mongoose in and it took out the KLR. The battle was straight forward after that. The Sen’Jin Fetish and Bigglesworth cancelled each other out then the Spirit Crab easily defeated the Ruby Droplet thanks to strong Whirlpools.
Record: 1-0

Battle 2
vs. Fledgling Nether Ray, Kun-Lai Runt, Voodoo Figurine
021114CRng happens, but I hate when it happens during a daily battle. The KLR was 273 speed so I didn’t have the luxury of being faster after the Frost Shock. I decided to just take the Frost Shock and Deep Freeze with the Spirit Crab and drop a Whirlpool. It worked as planned, I swapped to my Sen’Jin Fetish as the KLR got rooted. Two Shadow Shocks were needed to kill the KLR, but one missed. The battle came down to the Mongoose Pup coming in against a slower Fledgling Nether Ray. Survival gave me the opportinity to win, but the winning Dive missed for the loss.
Record: 1-1

Battle 3
vs. Gilnean Raven, Father Winter’s Helper, Pandaren Monk
021114DI’ve mentioned before that I don’t like losing to Clockwork Gnomes, losing to Pandaren Monks is the same. They aren’t that good in my opinion. I thought that I played this one well but again rng wasn’t nice to me. Darkness misses plus a Nocturnal Strike crit was just too much to deal with. Not a good night so far, but I have to remember that I also win a lot from rng.
Record: 1-2

Battle 4
vs. Kun-Lai Runt, Ashstone Core, Xu-Fu
021114BNo one told me it was 5.2 night, what’s up with all these KLRs? This game is easy when you don’t miss. The battle started with Xu-Fu versus the Spirit Crab. Xu-Fu won but with only 100 hp left so the Mongoose Pup easily finished the beast off. Then the Ashstone Core came in to chalk up some misses. The Mongoose Pup easily dispatched it. I ate the Deep Freeze with the Mongoose Pup then saw the Shadow Shocks hit for big pain to the KLR.
Record: 2-2

Battle 5
vs. Xu-Fu, Ashstone Core, Father Winter’s Helper
021114AThanks for not brining the KLR this time. Same as last time the Spirit Crab faced Xu-Fu and lost. Well not really, the Spirit Crab could have taken the low hp Xu-Fu out on its undead round but it made more sense to put down a Whirlpool for the next pet. Next round the Mongoose Pup killed off Xu-Fu, then after that it took out the Father Winter’s Helper thanks to the Whirlpool. It hit a Dive against the Ashstone Core to make it easy for the Sen’Jin Fetish to clean up.
Record: 3-2

Battle 6
vs. Kun-Lai Runt, Macabre Marionette, Xu-Fu
Oh man, this person again. They figured out that I would start with the Spirit Crab so the KLR started this battle. I threw a Whirlpool down and swapped, letting the Sen’Jin Fetish eat the Deep Freeze. It didn’t stun. The KLR stayed in to get rooted by the Whirlpool and this time the Sen’Jin Fetish didn’t miss. Xu-Fu was next. Xu-Fu put some serious hurt on all of my pets. I was impressed. Unfortunately for my opponent the Macabre Marionette just couldn’t finish things off against my Spirit Crab. It wasn’t the most interesting night facing the same opponent so many times. I think it’s funny that I didn’t run into any of the pets this team is designed to counter. At least I know it can do well enough against other teams too.
Record: 4-2
