Gone Wildin’
I feel like a challenge, hopefully I won’t get owned too hard with all wild pets.

Battle 1: Wetlands Wonders
Tiny Bog Beast, Mountain Skunk, Huge Toad
vs. Gilnean Raven, Emperor Crab, Fel Flame

072114BThis was an interesting battle with all of the hard and soft countering going on. I will admit that rng was very friendly to me in this battle. My Tiny Bog Beast hit every Lash, every time it was used. Two Nocturnal Strikes were missed against my elemental in the darkness. I haven’t used a skunk much but sometimes they can be impressive with both a direct and a team heal. We should start getting used to team heals since it looks like they may be the main counter to the buff to some AoE moves.
Record: 1-0

Battle 2: Winterspring Warriors
Rabid Nut Varmint 5000, Robo-Chick, Alpine Hare
vs. Anubisath Idol, Kun-Lai Runt, Chrominius

072114AI replaced my S/S Robo-Chick wih an H/H breed which meant a shift from Batter to Peck. This turned out to be a really good call because I would have been left with all multi-attacks against the shielded idol. Well, I would also have the ever unreliable Wind-Up but it stayed true to form and missed a kill shot on the idol. 95% accuracy CDs are blood-boilingly annoying. The closer we get to WoD the more I look forward to the accuracy changes. I shouldn’t get too excited since I haven’t taken a close mathematical look at it, it may turn out to be horrible. I probably won’t notice since I’ll be too busy bowing down to my new AoE overlords. Back to the battle, even with the Wind-Up miss I was able to win due to my opponent making a big error by trying to pound my rabbit with Surge Of Power. It was dodged. This was still a close one, my RNV 5000 survived with 19 hp and Failsafe.
Record: 2-0

Battle 3: Blade’s Edge Livers
Squirrel, Scalded Basilisk Hatchling, Cogblade Raptor
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Lil’ Ragnaros, Darkmoon Eye

072114DTwo of my most hated enemy pets at once. No worries, this time I am equipped with a Squirrel. The basilisk and mech raptor took out the Darkmoon Eye without taking much damage, then the Squirrel neutralized Lil’ Ragnaros. This left the Unborn Val’kyr to face an two near full health pets. Rather than take a needless beating my opponent went for the suicide Haunt. So far the wild pets are getting good match-ups. Apparently the queue gods smile on wild pet teams.
Record: 3-0

Battle 4: For The Gorge
Lava Crab, Molten Hatchling, Fire Beetle
vs. Lil’ Ragnaros, Unborn Val’kyr, Bonkers

Dang, any good luck I was having with rng went right out the window with this battle. I was actually feeling pretty good about beating this team until Bonkers got extremely lucky. The stupid monkey killed my Molten Hatchling with a crit before I could get a heal off, then my Lava Crab missed a Burn. All of this along with Bonkers hitting two stuns. I really dislike Bonkers, too. However it’s not a good enough pet to promote to most hated status. I forgot to get a screenshot since I was too busy trying to figure out how to overcome the monkey’s luck.
Record: 3-1

Battle 5: Jade Forest Jammers
Leopard Tree Frog, Shrine Fly, Wild Jade Hatchling
vs. Lil’ Ragnaros, Unborn Val’kyr, Bonkers

072114EWhen I queue with all wild pet teams, especially with map based themed teams, I expect to lose more than usual. However, I don’t really expect to lose to a team full of pets that I seriously dislike twice in a row. How sad is that. I couldn’t really get the lightning strategy going because I thought my opponent would start with Bonkers and I didn’t want to sacrifice my dragon to the humanoid attacks. The fly was worthless against the lame monkey so I was stuck with the frog to start. It ended up being a close battle, the valk won due to its undead round. I queued with some regular teams with hopes of spanking this team but I wasn’t lucky enough to get it in the queue again. Back to wild pets.
Record: 3-2

Battle 6: Darkshore Deathsquad
Darkshore Cub, Shimmershell Snail, Squirrel
vs. Alpine Fox, Alpine Fox, Chi-Chi

072114FWow, tonight is the suck. I didn’t realize that maintenance was early so I got disconnected. I’m fairly sure I would have won. I had the full health snail and a 500 hp squirrel on the back line to take out Chi-Chi (the two foxes were dead). The plan was to get Chi-Chi below flying bonus health then finish it off with the Squirrel. It wasn’t a sure thing, but I was in good shape. Then I got disconnected thanks to the early maintenance. I care less about this and more about the fact that I can’t requeue to find that annoying Bonkers team. Oh, I have to stick to the rules and count this as a loss. Overall it was a fun night with my map buddy teams.
Record: 3-3

Glad to see the Shimmershell make a showing .. an under-rated and under used pet. Despite being brutally slow, it has strong attack vs a lot of the most popular PvP pets. It also has a great racial adv. and my preferred h/p breed has 305 power.

I suggest ooze touch/Acidic too and a coin flip for the 3rd slot …both are solid … Choose between : Dive= avoidance (strong vs ele) or a stun chance with Headbutt (str. vs critters)..a lot of Elementals in my meta so I usually take Dive.

You got me thinking about the snail. I used this pet often in 5.2 and earlier but I strayed away from it in 5.3 (probably due to direhorns). It deserves to be brought back for the sole purpose of being an annoyance to Lil’ Ragnaros users. Weak damage, no stun, Dive… why did I forget about this pet?
