Gone Wildin’
I’ve been totally wrecking the meta today with a Warbot, Fiendish Imp and Restless Shadeling. I was going to do the daily on it, then I realized it’s really no secret that the Warbot + Fiendish Imp + third pet will own… a lot of teams. So I decided to take a more challenging approach with wild pets. (I reserve the right to use a Warbot and Fiendish Imp when I feel like getting easier wins.)

Battle 1: Acorn Berserkers
Grizzly Squirrel Infected Squirrel, Rabid Nut Varmint 5000
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Scalded Basilisk Hatchling, Lil’ Bad Wolf

042014DI didn’t like my chances going into this battle but my opponent let me have the match-ups that I wanted. Those match-ups were Grizzly Squirrel versus Unborn Val’kyr, Infected Squirrel versus Lil’ Bad Wolf, and most importantly Rabid Nut Varmint 5000 vesrus Scalded Basilisk Hatchling. The 325 speed of my S/S RNV 5000 completely shut down the basilisk at the end of the battle. I was also lucky with the Nut Barrage hitting every attack against the Unborn Val’kyr on two different occasions. Somehow these squirrels always manage to come through.
Record: 1-0

Battle 2: New Shinies
Spirit Crab, Sporeling Sprout, Imperial Eagle Chick
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Stitched Pup, Blighthawk

I liked my chances in this battle even less than the last, but surprisingly I forced the draw. Five, yes five, Consume Corpses was just too much healing for me to handle. The only reason that I was even able to force the draw was because of the Sporeing Sprout’s Crouch. Crouch going first is an amazing defensive move. Along with the healing from Leech Seed the little mushroom guy is quite the tank, even against undead. I was really hoping for a miracle miss on the Blighthawk’s undead round but I had no such luck.
Record: 1-0-1

Battle 3: Turcraben
Spirit Crab, Emperor Crab, Highlands Turkey
vs. Pandaren Water Spirit, Scalded Basilisk Hatchling, Ashwing Moth

042014AI have such a healthy respect for the Scalded Basilisk Hatchling. I know if it gets matched up with a slower pet it will own hard. I needed to make sure to save my Highlands Turkey for the basilisk since that’s the only fast pet I had. After taking out the Pandaren Earth Spirit I had an almost full health turkey for the basilisk so I was able to pull off the win. The Ashwing Moth was completely ineffective against the Spirit Crab with Moth Balls doing damage in the 60s against the shield and the DoT portion of Wild Winds being blocked completely.
Record: 2-0-1

Battle 4: Ape Of The Cape
Baby Ape, Strand Crab, Rat
vs. Winter’s Little Helper, Pengu, Tiny Snowman

I was looking through My Teams for all wild pet teams and sadly the three listed above were all I could find. I had to go to some of my “map buddy” teams (which haven’t yet been promoted to the teams page) in order to continue. Map buddies are themed teams made up of pets from the same map. This team is comprised of all wild caught from the Cape Of Stranglethorn. This loss was somewhat frustrating because this is a Blizzard team that I thought I could beat. Instead, like a total moron I cast Poison Fang when I wanted Survival. This cost my Rat two turns because it could have taken out the Winter’s Little Helper on the next round then got off another DoT against the next enemy pet. Instead it died. I wasn’t going to win for sure by any means but that surely set me back quite a bit. So far in all of my pet battling experience I’ve only made one Baby Ape team that I really like Jaguero Souvenir. For a pet that was so hard to obtain it doesn’t get much use.
Record: 2-1-1

Battle 5: Blade’s Edge Livers
Scalded Basilisk Hatchling, Cogblade Raptor, Squirrel
vs. Ashwing Moth, Maggot, Twilight Fiendling

042014FI have to admit I didn’t play this one very well and was lucky to end up with the win. The final match-up was between the Scalded Basilisk Hatchling and the Twilight Fiendling, which has a spammable speed buff. Okay, it wasn’t like my basilisk was in that much danger, but ending the battle was more troublesome than expected. The Cogblade Raptor applying Exposed Wounds to the Twilight Fiendling before dying helped out a lot. Out of all the map buddies this team is one of the better ones, having two really good pets in the Cogblade Raptor and the Scalded Basilisk Hatchling.
Record: 3-1-1

Battle 6: Winterspring Warriors
Alpine Hare, Robo-Chick, Rabid Nut Varmint 5000
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Ominous Flame, Lil’ Bling

042014CLil’ Bling is a solid pet that has never really appealed to me. I think the randomness of Blingtron Gift Package turns me off. This Lil’ Bling did good against me, I took a Rocket while Shattered Defenses was applied because I lost count of the the turns of Inflation. Apparently counting to three twice in a row is hard for me. With the errors from the battles above I think it’s safe to say I’m having a bad day pet battling, which is kind of funny since it’s such a basic game. This time my poor Robo-Chick was the victim of my error. What I like to do with moves like Inflation and Stampede is wait until the third turn has passed then swap so my pet won’t take a normal attack with Shattered Defenses up. Instead, I let my Robo-Chick stay in and take a Rocket to the face for double damage. I thought that would be enough to keep me from winning but it didn’t. The RNV 5000 was pitted against the Ominous Flame in the final match-up. Crouch + Rabid Strike + Thrash spam saved the day. Crouch on a fast pet is really amazing.
Record: 4-1-1

With that I think I’ll call it a day. Once again wild pets make a decent showing in the meta.
