May Event Madness

P/P Jade Oozeling (Absorb, Corrosion, Acidic Goo)
P/P Imperial Eagle Chick (Thrash, Adrenaline Rush, Lift-Off)
P/S Legionnaire Murky (For The Horde!, Whirlwind, Shieldstorm)

I’ve always liked the P/P Jade Oozeling and the P/P Imperial Eagle Chick. They both do a lot of damage quickly but are both somewhat fragile. I thought that Legionnaire Murky would be a good third because of the For The Horde! and Shieldstorm. For The Horde! will make these big damagers do even bigger damage and Shieldstorm will give them an extra turn to do this damage.

The plan will be to start with Legionnaire Murky to get the buff from For The Horde and the blocks from Shieldstorm up. Of course we’ll throw in an Whirlwind to hit those back line pets. Eventually everything will be on CD, so at that point I’ll have to weigh whether or not swapping is worth it.

Then one of the other pets will come in, either will benefit greatly from the 25% damage buff. The plan with the Jade Oozeling is usually to put up Acidic Goo, then Corrosion, then spam Absorb to keep the health up. If you can get away with this the ooze will rip through enemy health fast while not losing much. The problem is that when things don’t go exactly as planned there’s not a lot of wiggle room with only 1481 health and no defensive moves. When the eagle comes in it’ll be hitting at 180 per multiple attack (225 with buff). That’s a lot of damage. It can avoid with Lift-Off and keep it’s speed with Adrenaline Rush after the flying racial is gone. Same with the ooze, it’s fragile and can go down fast when things don’t go its way.

W: TCS, Crow, Blightbreath
What a first battle. I certainly though I would start my journey with a nasty defeat. The first match-up was ooze versus undead. That’s very good for me. The ooze took Blightbreath down quickly, but I still wasn’t feeling good about the outcome. The dragon came in to kill my ooze, then I won an important head game, using Shieldstorm when the used its dodge. Now I had a little bit of protection

W: Moonshell Crab, Emerald Turtle, Ghostshell Crab (2-0)
I was worried that so much shielding would make life difficult, especially for my eagle’s multiple attack, but it turned out the shields weren’t enough to protect these aquatics from a buffed eagle.

May 21, 2019
W: Fel Flame, Spirit Of Summer, Spirit Of Summer (3-0)
I started off with my murloc against one of the spirits and I thought it didn’t go well, that I was heading for a loss. The shields proved invaluable as I was able to stay alive one turn longer with both the ooze and the bird, which was enough to win.

W: Alpine Fox, Rattlejaw, Wicked Soul (4-0)
Ok, this time I really thought I was gonna lose. Instead the eagle went into insanity mode, hitting a few crits along with some triples to take down the fox and the soul and still get some damage off against Rattlejaw. I was impressed. Rattlejaw made quick work of LM, but the ooze finished off the undead easily with the damage buff.

W: Rotten Little Helper, Father Winter’s Helper, Winter’s Little Helper (5-0)
The blocks saved me from mines, my lift saved me from a strong Gift Of Winter’s Veil, the next block saved me from the next gift. My opponent fled.

W: Knockoff Blingtron, Teeny Titan Orb, Iron Starlette (6-0)
MEMA
Again the mines were blocked. As was the super nuke from the Iron Starlette.

L: Softshell Sapling, Spirit Crab, Clockwork Gnome (6-1)
W: Iron Starlette, Teeny Titan Orb, Inky (7-1)
W: Alpine Fox, Rattle Jaw, Fledgling Warden Owl (8-1)
W: Ikky, Ikky, Ikky
(9-1)
You can see these four battles in the video below:

W: Lil’ Bling, Scourged Whelpling, Sprite Darter Hatchling (10-1)
MEMBI thought I could take down the beefy undead whelpling with my Jade Oozeling, but the strong damage from Tail Sweep was too much to heal through. The pets killed each other. In the 2v2 battle that follwed my opponent jumper into the lead, with the dragon taking out my murloc quickly thanks to the dragonkin racial proccing. It seemed like I was gonna lose, but when the eagle comes in with the attack buff up good things happen. The eagle finished off the dragon without even needing a triple, then pounded the mech, who luckily had shields instead of the gift.

W: Abyssius, Vicious Broodling, Iron Startlette (11-1)
I didn’t think about how many Iron Starlettes I’d be facing during the event. The blocks are quite handy.

W: Azure Whelpling, Phoenix Hatchling, Snowfeather Hatchling (12-1)
MEMDOnce again I felt that I was in trouble, this time because I kept my murloc in for too long against the flyer. I brought in the eagle to finish off the Snowfeather Hatchling, then had to face the dragon.  My troubles were erased when I swapped the almost dead health murloc back in to take the Surge Of Power. My eagle easily cleaned up after that.

W: Tinder Pup, Molten Corgi, Fel Flame (13-1)
MEMEThere’s often a crucial moment of rng in a PvP pet battle. That moment came when the 244 speed ooze was facing the 244 speed Fel Flame. Acidic Goo was already up, if the ooze goes first then the Fel Flame is in big trouble with both DoTs up. The did indeed win and I went on to a comfortable victory, although the Molten Corgi was pa problem for my blocks when it went under.

L: Dread Hatchling, Bone Serpent, Frostfur Rat (13-2)
Rng sure caught up to me fast. This time I was on the losing end of it. Facing a “real” team, a regular meta team seen outside the event, I was wondering how my team would fare. The Jade Oozeling took out the Bone Serpent quite well, but two important misses from my eagle determined the outcome of the battle. I’m actually impressed by my team’s performance.

W: Wicked Soul, Thunder Lizard Runt, Scuttle (14-2)
A very close battle. The eagle started against the soul, did some damage before taking the Haunt, then went up into the air when the Thunder Lizard Runt used it’s Akunda’s Wrath. This left the damage debuff up, which was a nice time for my eagle to crit. Later on the crits evened out when a crit prevented the ooze from an extra turn. The block saved the day against Scuttle’s Pump.

W: Lil’ Bling, Darkmoon Zeppelin, Bloodgazer Hatchling (15-2)
This was an event week win for sure. On two different occasions my opponent didn’t attack my eagle when it landed from the Lift-Off. I suppose they thought it wasn’t hittable. Didn’t deserve this one.

L: MPD, Servant Of Demidos, Fossilized Hatchling (15-3)
I didn’t think of MPDs when I was making this team. There are an awful lof of MPDs during the event and my team has no way of handling them. I almost pulled this one off, the battle came down to whether or not to 50% crit would proc from Magic Sword. It did and I lost.

L: Wicked Soul, Crusher, Zomstrok (15-4)
This was the most annoying battle so far, for two reasons. First, I clicked on the screen to adjust the POV, I ended up choosing my murloc to start the battle, which was not what I wanted. Second, I thought that Zomstrok was a Magical Crawdad. Sure, it’s my fault since I know that Zomstrok and the scumdad have the same icon, but it’s still annoying that Blizz reuses them.

May 26, 2019
W: Death Adder Hatchling, Wyrmy Tunkins, Young Venomfang (16-4)
I’ve played this opponent before and I know this team well (Young Poison Maniacs). I figured they would start with the adder so I started with my eagle. That went well for me, I thrashed before the blind came, I lifted while I was blinded. At one point I had a bad match-up with the Young Venomfang versus my humanoid, but I got the shields up which I wanted.

L: MPD, Cerulean Moth, Clockwork Gnome (16-5)
I should never have made a team that can be countered my an MPD and gnome, two pets that I find distasteful. My first instinct is to run to my imp and laugh, but it’s the even so I won’t. I really, really want to haha.

W: Teroclaw Hatchling, Teroclaw Hatchling, Crow (17-5)
MEMFI felt that as long as my Corrosion didn’t miss the Crow I would be fine. It didn’t miss, then I added some Acid Goo and the Crow went down fast. Before the nerf two tclaws may have been hard to take down. After the nerf they are not.

May 27, 2019
L: TCS, Crow, Blightbreath (17-6)
Rematch of the intro game, this time I didn’t try to win any head games and went with straight forward approach. It didn’t work.

L: TCS, Hermit Crab, Vengeful Porcupette (17-7)
What a sad thing the event has turned into.

June 2, 2019
W: Unborn Val’kyr, Ghastly Kid, Son OF Sethe (18-7)
MEMGI was scared about running this team outside of the event, but for some reason had a strong urge to play it. I ended up against this triple undead team and my Jade Oozeling’s eyes lit up. Corrosion and Acidic Goo takes elementals down fast. The valk started off and I got both DoTs up before it Haunted. Next came the kid and I got them both up before the ooze died. The eagle came in to lift and then take the kid to zero health as the valk died on the back line. Double kill! I was worried about the healing of the final pet, but my humanoid and eagle managed to finish it off. Hmm, play more? Things have been quite competitive lately, not sure this team can handle the full force of the competitive queue.

W: Anodized Robo Cub, Baby Blizzard Bear, Baby Elderhorn (19-7)
The robo bear started, I went through my murloc’s rotation, then brought in the ooze to finish the cub. AFter doing so my ooze had most of its health left. My opponent fled.

June 7, 2019
W: Drafty, Zepharian Prince, Surger (20-7)
Kind of a cool team to face with some pets that I don’t see a lot. Battle-wise is was no contest.

W: Drafty, Zepharian Prince, Surger (21-7)
The battle was going down the exact same way as the last, sdown to the health left on pets after each move. My opponent changed things up a bit halfway through there second pet which made the battle a closer contest, but not too close.

June 8, 2019
W: Anubisath Idol, Hyjal Wisp, Emerald Proto-Whelp (22-7)
I thought I was in serious trouble with the Hyjal Wisp, it was totally dominating my murloc. I switched to the ooze, and my opponent wet me get the DoT combo uip, which led to the wisp dying while dodging on the turn the heal was about to go off. Still I wasn’t out of the woods. I was again having trouble with eagle versus dragon thanks to the healing and shield, so I went back to the murloc to knock some hp off, which left the dragon with little enough health to survive the eagle. Yet again I thought the idol was going to be trouble. Turns out the eagle does 106 damage per attack in a sandstorm. Good eagle.

September 11, 2019
L: Scourged Whelpling, Blightbreath, Wyrmy Tunkins (22-8)
This is why we can’t have nice things. My poor “fun” team is never going to beat one of the scumbaggiest combos (blight/scourged) out there. Think I will pull out my Frostwolf Ghostpup to terrorize this team if I see it again.

L: MPD, Lil’ Ragnaros, Emperor Crab (22-9)
Aww, not a good day for my event team.

September 13, 2019
W: MPD, Anubisath Idol, Ancient Nest Guardian (23-9)
The Gruesome Belcher was uncommon, so the fear of facing two undead was lessened.

W: Fiendish Imp, Twilight Clutch-Sister, Grotesque (24-9)
I thought I had no chance, but my opponent made the mistake of keeping the Grotesque in against the Jade Oozeling. That little green blob rips through undead pets. The healing of the Grotesque and the ooze made the match up last a while, but the oozeling eventually prevailed with health to spare. The imp was forced to use its gate on the ooze, setting me up for success in the remaining 2v2. It was still close. Murky ended up finishing the battle with 87 health after taking out the dragon on the back line and the imp in front.

W: Twilight Clutch-Sister, Twilight Clutch-Sister, Twilight Whelpling (25-9)
Hmm, you probably shouldn’t put up prismatic barrier and keep passing while I do the same and let my Shieldstorm come off CD. Thanks.

September 14, 2019
W: Disgusting Oozeling, Nordrassil Wisp, Filthling (26-9)
MEMHI was worried about all that magic damage against my flyer, but the eagle only took a few hits on the back line from Arcane Explosion. By the time it cam in later it only had to clean up the Filthling.

L: MPD, Twilight Clutch-Sister, Weebomination (26-10)
My team has no way of taking down decoys, so I was really up against here. I ended up with my Jade Oozeling versus the Weebomination, which is a good match-up for me, but the ooze had already taken too much damage.

July 2, 2020 (27-10)
W: Unborn Val’kyr, Accursed Hexxer, Spawn Of Onyxia (27-10)
I bet my opponent thought things were going well as it put the CoD up then haunted my ooze. Little did they realize that once the valk comes back to life it’s got a hardcore undead killing double DoT up. I was afraid of the eagle versus the magic pet, but the eagle did so much damage so fast to the low health Accursed Hexxer that I ended up winning that match-up.

W: Iron Starlette (28-10)
MEMII’m so good I kill them before the battle even starts.

W: Iron Starlette, Specimen 97, Corrupted Nest Guardian (29-10)
When you are first learning pet battles there are a lot of lessons to be learned. Today’s lesson was don’t unload your Wind-Up when the opposing pet had a block up. Between doing that THREE times and missing the forth due to a lift I though my opponent might flee. To their credit they stuck around until the end.

July 11, 2020
W: Shadow, Servant Of Demidos, Mailemental (30-10)
A reminder that I still don’t have that Mailemental pet. Bad me for being lazy.

L: Lil’ Bling, Lil’ Bling, Lil’ Bling (30-11)
The thing that makes my team viable is the Shieldstorm and a single barrage move can really mess that up. Three barrage moves totally negate it. Plus, along with triple flyers, I find mechs to be one of the toughest achievement triple teams to face. I got them down to the final bling, which is better than I thought I would do. Now where did I put that imp?

D: Rose Taipan, Death Adder Hatchling, Zandalari Anklerender (30-11-1)
Aww, my first draw. The eagle did a lot of damage but the murloc was doing weak damage and was slower than the blinds. I was surprised to get the draw but a tick killed the raptor after it finished my ooze.

July 15, 2020
L: Anomalus, Blightbreath, Blightbreath (30-12-1)
This was a massacre on a scale I usually don’t encounter. In an Anomalus filled meta it’s probably not a good idea to run three low health pets, one of which is a flyer. I don’t know what I was thinking, but for some reason I started with my murloc, which was a horrible choice. Next time I will start with the eagle or the ooze since both of those can take outs pets relatively fast. Actually, the eagle can take out Anomalus in 2 rounds if it hits two triples. Again, not sure what I was thinking by starting with the murloc. I requeued immediately with my team Totally Not A Monkey (Flayer Youngling, Spirit Crab, Leviathan Hatchling) and eeked out a revenge win. I could have destroyed it with a sand team but that just isn’t fun.
