Today’s Team: Amazing Larry’s Revenge
H/S Crystal Spider (Crystal Prison, Brittle Webbing, Spiderling Swarm)
H/P Mountain Skunk (Scratch, Perk Up, Bleat)
H/B Swamp Croaker (Water Jet, Swarm Of Flies, Bubble)

Rationale:
Vek reminded me of spiders the other day so I wanted to give the Crystal Spider another shot. With a 305 speed stun, Brittle Webbing and a move that benefits from the webbed effect it’s an interesting pet. When I was making a trial team to give the spider a whirl I really just threw in some random partners: the skunk and frog. Sometimes I get lucky with a thoughtless team like this; at first I thought I was onto something good with an 8-1-1 start. It turned out to be a fluke, eventually the losses started to pile up. It’s still a fun team to play and I like getting some experience with AoE heals. I hear there’s going to be a lot of AoE damage in WoD. Sucks.

Concerns:
Without a spammable normal attack the Crystal Spider can be tricky to use. There’s no synergy on this team.

The Opposing Team:
S/S Death Adder Hatchling
S/S Jademist Dancer
B/B Unborn Val’kyr
This person must have been bullied a lot on the playground.

The Battle:
0Tuesday probably wasn’t a good day to go galavanting about the meta with a no synergy, no top pet team. I ran into this team and thought I was doomed for sure. I got the final pet down to 130 hp, which was a lot closer to winning than I thought I would come. The big problem was that I couldn’t get the skunk out to heal for fear of the adder. There’s really not a lot to say that hasn’t been said before. Haunt. Blinding Poison. Rain Dance. 5.4 all wrapped into one sad experience. I can’t wait for WoD so we can have… another top Haunt pet and stronger AoE damage. At least that’s what I’m hearing.

Still good job in the face of those powerful moves/pets.

I have also been trying to come up with “new” things to try. This got me thinking one of the ways to handle DAH is to get a speed debuff up. Most powerful is of course Primal Cry but direhorns are already a good match vs the adder and the zandalari raptors are a bit too squishy. Browsing through the other speed debuffs I found an old favourite. The Scalded Basilisk Hatchling. Going with Screech would mean I would have to take bite and lose the powerful stun. So it would not be as powerful in the endgame as it once was. But still Bite would preform better than Thrash in a sandstorm.

I went out and got a H/B breed instead of the regular 305 speed one I used to run. Right now I wish there was an even more powerful breed.

Paired it with a Pandaren Earth Spirit for some mech and MPD protection, as well as a stun. Feign Death would switch in this pet. Also brougt another oldie, the Broom. Won two tight battles against a valk team and an idol team. Then things went downhill. 260 speed of the spirit was too slow for my taste. Not really sure this idea will pan out, might have to try some different partners.

There’s one team I face that uses Screech on the basilisk. It’s a Haunt and stall team that uses Screech to slow faster pets, then use Crystal Prison then Feign Death. It has very little offensive power since it’s only used for stalling. Paired with an imp to swap it’s beaten me a few times, but whenever I’ve faced the basilisk one on one at the end of a battle I’ve won.

Sounds like an annoying team. But with only screech for damage the other pets has to do double the work. Of course haunt damage is high so…
