Five Wins Or Bust

Battle 1: Bog Rage
Tiny Bog Beast, Scourged Whelpling, Fiendish Imp
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Emerald Whelpling, Minfernal

051914AThe mech dragons have been harassing me with Decoys so I brought my Fiendish Imp out. I’ve been having so much success with the 289 speed Tiny Twister and Bash that I went out and got a 289 speed (H/S) Tiny Bog Beast for its ability to Clobber. It’s always fun to use underused pets, even if I did just group it with this powerful combo. I had no real way of dealing with the Unborn Val’kyr so I let the Tiny Bog Beast eat the Haunt while it Rampaged the other two pets. It was able to Clobber the slower Emerald Whelpling on two separate occasions and those extra turns helped win the battle.

Battle 2: Minfernal Tears
Prairie Mouse, Clockwork Rocket Bot, Minfernal
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Clockwork Gnome, Sunreaver-Micro Sentry

051419CEven after all of these battles sometimes this game really pisses me off. I had the win locked up if I would have made the right choice, but I realized that the timer was running down due to the long, long animation of Turrets and lightning. I had to make a hasty choice about whether or not to cast Survival without doing any calculations. I made the wrong choice and cast Survival a round too early. This meant that on the turn that I killed the Clockwork Gnome I was no longer protected by Survival so the Turret killed my Prairie Mouse for the draw. Lame. I could have figured it out earlier rather than wait, but still, it sucks to not win when I could have. Plus we have two Val’kyrs in a row, why can’t people realize that there’s more to pet battling than Unborn Val’kyrs? Really it’s quite sad.

Battle 3: Minfernal Tears
Prairie Mouse, Clockwork Rocket Bot, Minfernal
vs. Pandaren Fire Spirit, Nexus Whelpling, Mini Mindslayer

051914BAfter losing a battle that I could have won I felt this team needed to redeem itself. This wasn’t the best opportunity because my team soft countered this team so well, I should have won easily and I did. The Pandaren Fire Spirit started against my mech (I thought that the Nexus Whelpling would start), so I wasted my initial turn swapping out of the strong damage. I went to my Prairie Mouse, my opponent didn’t swap out of it so the soft countering critter won that match-up. After the Prairie Mouse died my mech was able to take out both of the Mana Surge pets due to being a soft counter, plus one 80% miss by the Mini Mindslayer.

Battle 4: Melted Diamonds
Lil’ Bling, Scourged Whelpling, Fel Flame
vs. Lil’ Ragnaros, Pandaren Monk, Core Hound Pup

051914DIt’s just not my day. Another draw. Not much to say here except Lil’ Ragnaros hit like a truck. I thought that Lil’ Bling would be able to take out the Pandaren Monk one on one but it couldn’t manage, at least not before dying. I should make a soccer style point system where at least I get something for a draw. Right now all it does is bring my win percentage down. It’s going down fast.

Battle 5: Purple Crane
Eternal Strider, Spirit Crab, Azure Crane Chick
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Sunreaver Micro-Sentry, Clockwork

I got my revenge against the team from battle 2 but it was unsatisfying. I thought I was headed for another loss but my opponent bailed early. Who knows why but on a day like today I’ll accept the bailout.

Battle 6: Batter Not
Sen’Jin Fetish, Robo-Chick, Tiny Twister
vs. Wild Jade Hatchling, Unborn Val’kyr, Kovok

051914EThe first Sear Magic cleansed pheromones and the poison. The next Sear Magic cleansed the poison and the cyclone. Wild Magic and Flame Breath caused some big damage along with the lightning. After eight rounds of the Sen’Jin Fetish Kovok was dead, the Wild Jade Hatchling had only 1 hp left while the Unborn Val’kyr was Haunting. My opponent fled due these bleak circumstances. Now that I’ve been tabulating win and loss records over a longer period of time most of my pets have dropped below an 80% win rate. However, all three of these pets are still above 80%. Interesting.
Record: 4-0-2

Battle 7: Party Party Party
Tiny Twister, Lil’ Bling, Macabre Marionette
vs. Fiendish Imp, Alterac Brew Pup, Stunted Direhorn

051914GI wasn’t happy to see the Fiendish Imp against my lightning team since those Immolation ticks would cause a lot of lightning strikes against my own team. I was even less happy to see the Stunted Direhorn cast Trihorn Shield. None of my little attacks would be able to get through that insane shield. The good news was there would be no Primal Cry so I could keep my speed. I Bashed the direhorn for two of the shielded rounds and cast Call Lightning on the third. The direhorn killed the Tiny Twister but died due to Wild Winds, Death and Decay plus lightning. Lil’ Bling fearlessly took on the Fiendish Imp and came out the winner thanks to Extra Plating. In the end the Cute N’ Cuddly bug took out Extra Plating but it wasn’t enough to deny me the win. The Macabre Marionette needed its undead racial but got the job done. Here I am at five wins out of seven again even with the slow start, nice.

Ive really been liking the last team (Twister, Marionette, and Bling). Im quite new to pet battles (Ive done about 8, blergh), and after getting soundly trounced with teams that I haphazardly threw together with no real knowledge of how things worked (you mean two shielders and healers isnt enough to win? Whaaaaat?) I was tempted to give in to the dark side and just use what everyone else was ROFLstomping with. A friend suggested I check out your teams and see if I could get some inspiration and education on how things worked.

Well, he said inspiration and I ended up straight stealing your team, but uh.. it’s just while I get the hang of things. So, thank you!

I’m happy that you chose to not go down the dark path. Feel free to copy any team while you’re getting the hang of things :)

This is probably an unnecessary but hey :) I managed 13 battles last night. 6 wins using the Twister/Marionette/Bling team (would have been 8, but I derped on one )tried to Bash a critter, then hit the wrong hot key and switched to the wrong pet) and DC’d for another (and that guy was using all level 23s so I would have totally won. Damnit, Blizz!). Surprisingly for a Sun night at midnight, I didnt get any repeat teams. Saw 2 Valks, no DAHs, and one Idol. Then I got nervous that I would start to see repeat teams, and swapped to a Clonedancer-ish team.. soundly trounced. I tried something else involving a Spirit Crab, soundly trounced.

I know I need to try more teams but damnit.. I love Bling so much, and Bash/Lightning makes me giddy with joy. Oh the sweet sweet taste of victory after banging my head into the wall.

I’m in a similar boat, except in my case I’ll get trounced by some pet (arcane eye wtfbbq’d be in a fight for example), then I queue with a counter – Disco’s favorite Mechanical Dragonling. Seriously he thinks they’re out of control but the amount of magic pets out there means you need a counter. Perhaps emerald dragon whelp?

    • Luthorien says:

      Heck, man…I’m 2375 wins in and I STILL copycat Disco’s teams! :)

They’re very inspiring, though…and I have managed to create my own little offshoots of some of them, and even tailor some to the opponents I face continually on the meta.
