Today’s Team: Five Point Zero
S/S Flayer Youngling (Blitz, Deflection, Kick)
S/S Arctic Hare (Flurry, Dodge, Burrow)
H/P Blighthawk (Slicing Winds, Ghostly Bite, Lift-Off)

Strategy:
After playing a battle with the Aqua Teens last night my nostalgia kicked in. Five Point Zero was one of my best teams in the early days of pet battles. Back then the Flayer Youngling was probably the best pet around. In case you don’t remember, there was no Deflection. Instead it was called Reflection. Not only did it block the incoming attack but it reflected the damage back at the attacker. There were so many mind games, if you chose to use your nuke when the enemy reflected it meant a world of hurt. That was so fun, but it really deserved the nerf that it got. Back then I used Infected Claw on the Blighthawk but I went with Slicing Winds today in case of a shielded aquatic. It won’t help a lot due to being a multi-attack, but otherwise what can I do? Lift-Off and cross my fingers? The speedy bunny has survived patch after patch as a top-tier pet thanks to its ability to avoid danger. Enough reminiscing, how will this team do in today’s meta? Oh wait, this is the strategy section. I don’t really have one, I’ll just try to gain an advantage based on the family types.

Concerns:
I have a lot of multi-attacks. Any shielding will shut me down completely. Stupid nostalgia gonna make me lose.

The Opposing Team:
B/B Gilnean Raven
P/B Searing Scorchling
P/P Kun-Lai Runt

The Battle:
033014AThis was bad. Occasionally a Gilnean Raven can completely own the battle if Darkness favors it. Darkness favored it. I knew the Gilnean Raven would give me trouble but the other pets I thought I could handle easily enough after I took out the flyer. Taking it out was the problem. I missed two Blitzes and one Slicing Winds thanks to Darkness. I started with the Flayer Youngling so I could avoid the Nocturnal Strike. If I could just get the Gilnean Raven below half I’d be fine. As I mentioned above that didn’t happen. In retrospect, I probably would have been better off using the Blighthawk first then coming in afterwards with my faster pets. The misses combined with the of multi-attacks hitting just once for almost the entire battle meant that the Gilnean Raven took out both the Flayer Youngling and the Blighthawk. Like I said, it was bad. Then as a final failure I just realized I didn’t even get a good screenshot. So Sad.

To quote Dr. Hunter S. Thompson:

“The Raven is a queer and dangerous bird, far worse than the Crow. A pack of crows can destroy an owl or an eagle, but a single boss Raven will attack a whole gang of crows and rip the lungs out of its leaders. Most crows would rather commit suicide than go head-to-head with a boss raven.”
