Today’s Team: Ninety Fivers
S/S Prairie Mouse (Flurry, Poison Fang, Survival)
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)
H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling (Crystal Prison, Feign Death, Thrash)

Rationale:
I’m back in one of my Spirit Crab phases. While not as solid as it was in 5.3 it’s still a decent pet. I’ve also been using the Prairie Mouse for its ability to Flurry down those Decoys and Bubbles. It’s not like I see them all the time but when I do they annoy me so much that I go right to a pet with the ability to take them down, usually a Fiendish Imp. I was trying out a lot of different pets as a third member and ended up having the most success with another long time favorite, the Scalded Basilisk Hatchling. Which I realized is nothing new or too exciting, but hey, a guy’s gotta have some fun with his favorites sometimes. I’ve been able to beat a few Unborn Val’kyr teams thanks to the Spirit Crab’s shields. Last game I even managed to beat a sandstorm idol, but that was mostly due to Demolish spam not working out.

Concerns:
Birds, birds, birds. If there’s just one I can sacrifice my Spirit Crab, if there’s more it’s good game. Why? Snap and Thrash are weak against flyers and both Flurry and Thrash are speed based.

The Opposing Team:
P/B Feline Familiar
S/S Death Adder Hatchling
H/H Scourged Whelpling

The Battle:
062214AThe battle started off with the Feline Familiar getting wrecked by the Scalded Basilisk Hatchling. Thrash/Prowl, Crystal Prison, Thrash, Thrash/Onxy Bite, Thrash left the witch kitty dead while the basilisk only took about 540 damage. The DAH was next, I got out of there fast with a Feign Death. I hoped the snake would waste the blind on me but it didn’t. In came 1887 hp of undead seafood. While not the ultimate counter to the Death Adder Hatchling it can surely get the job done by simply outlasting the snake. While blinded the crab has a chance to refresh its shield and while shielded the DoT won’t tick. My opponent realized that the snake was going down so the Scourged Whelpling was brought in. After a Whirlpool application missed thanks to darkness I swapped to the Prairie Mouse. After a stronfg Flurry the snake came right back in. At this point I figured it was better to let the snake kill my mouse as long as I could get a DoT up. I still had the basilisk to take out the Scourged Whelpling. I got off a Poison Fang, and even a Survival to prolong the life of the mouse for an extra DoT tick. After the mouse died the Spirit Crab was able to finish off the Death Adder Hatchling, the basilisk finished the battle by easily taking out the Scourged Whelpling. There’s a reason these two pets have been long time favorites.
