Gone Wildin’
I’ve been getting pounded today in the queue. It’s been a case of bad match-ups, unlucky misses and a lack of coffee. Seriously, I forgot to put the espresso in my latte so I started the day by drinking steamed almond milk :). As long as I’m losing today I might as well do it with style by using all wild caught pets.

Battle 1: For The Gorge
Fire Beetle, Molten Hatchling, Lava Crab
vs. Fungal Abomination, Peddlefeet, Pocket Reaver

060114AThis is a “map buddy” team from the Searing Gorge. It has some conflag synergy and it’s color coordinated. What more could you want from a team? To win, which I did. Each of my pets had an advantage. The Lava Crab double countered the mech. To a lesser extent the Molten Hatchling double countered Peddlefeet. The beetle had a strong attack against the undead and couldn’t be stunned by the Stun Seed. Overall I was in good shape as long as I was careful. There was a lot of swapping in this battle as my opponent tried to get out of bad match-ups but I had too much going for me.
Record: 1-0

Battle 2: Hillsbraddies
Infested Bear Cub, Huge Toad, Squirrel
vs. Peddlefeet, Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling, Fossilized Hatchling

060114BSuper critter to the rescue! At 325 speed my critter was faster than the mech dragon which gave me an extra turn of Crouch safety. I started with the Squirrel since both of my other pets had 1709 hp so they could handle the AoE damage. My opponent swapped a lot in the beginning to get off all of their AoEs which gave me a lot of chances to use Woodchipper and Stampede. Decoy wasn’t too much of an issue due to Stampede. Peddlefeet died to a 1k+ damage Infected Claw due to the debuff. This was a good win versus a powerful AoE team.
Record: 2-0

Battle 3: Unfortunate Yeti
Stunted Yeti, Fel Flame, Scourged Whelpling
vs. Ashwing Moth, Gilded Moth, Amber Moth

060114CHello, welcome to pet battles. I hope you have an enjoyable time winning when Moth Dust procs and losing otherwise. My pets were put to sleep three times during this battle so there really wasn’t much I could do. Sometimes I want to be a gracious loser, but c’mon, it was three moths!
Record: 2-1

Battle 4: Darkshore Deathsquad
Darkshore Cub, Shimmershell Snail, Squirrel
vs. Spawn Of Onyxia, Kun-Lai Runt, Jade Tentacle

060114DThe Squirrel and the dragon cancelled each other out. The Darkshore Cub did some damage to the KLR then swapped so the snail could take the Deep Freeze. The snail took out the KLR and set up the Jade Tentacle for the bear to finish off. It was a close battle. That’s the first Jade Tentacle I’ve seen in the queue in a long time.
Record: 3-1

Battle 5: Winterspring Warriors
Rabid Nut Varmint 5000, Robo-Chick, Alpine Hare
vs. Alpine Foxling, Scourged Whelpling, Fossilized Hatchling

060114EMy team was fast enough (all S/S breeds) so that the Dazzling Dance only made the fox faster than my pets, the Fossilized Hatchling didn’t have enough base speed for the 25% increase to make a difference. I brought in my Robo-Chick to cast Overtune so the dancing fox couldn’t even out speed my mechanical poultry. What was I saying about bad match-ups earlier? Now it certainly seems that things are going my way, although I’m not seeing the high caliber teams that I was earlier. I suppose if you play long enough things will balance out.
Record: 4-1

Battle 6: Blade’s Edge Livers
Scalded Basilisk Hatchling, Squirrel, Cogblade Raptor
vs. Anubisath Idol, Magical Crawdad, Spirebound Crab

This was a weird battle. I swear if I wasn’t in the middle of a write-up I would have forfeit pretty early into this one, I mean how could I possibly win? Both crabs were equipped with Surge to negate my speed bonus from Thrash and Batter. The Anubisath Idol had Sandstorm and the ugly crayfish was shielded. About 20 rounds into this battle things were going as one would expect. I had hardly done any damage and what little damage I had done was healed with Wish. It was looking like it was going to be a fifty rounder when my opponent let the weather run out and didn’t change it back. Rather than swapping from the crawdad to the idol instead they swapped to the crab, then realized after one Surge that this isn’t what they wanted. The crawdad still had the damage debuff from Exposed Wounds when it came back in. The Scalded Basilisk Hatchling hit three Thrashes on th swap then two more Thrashes as Wish was cast, brining the crawdad to 15 hp. Sure that was a mistake, but it was hardly going to cause a loss. My opponent then fled in the 29th round. I told you, it was weird.
Record: 5-1

Battle 7: Acorn Berserkers
Grizzly Squirrel, Infected Squirrel, Rabid Nut Varmint 5000
vs. Golden Civet, Stitched Pup, Father Winter’s Helper

I now know the cure to getting spanked in the queue: queue up with all wild pets. This was a faceroll. After the Infected Squirrel and the RNV 5000 took out the Stitched Pup and the elf fairly easily the Golden Civet fled.
