Five Wins Or Bust
After a few warm up games I can tell that there are some heavy teams floating around. I can bring heavies, too.

Battle 1: Kingdom Of Doing
Spirit Crab, Spirit Crab, Death Adder Hatchling
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Death Adder Hatchling, Peddlefeet

070413CA frightening team no doubt. This time I’m equipped to deal with it. In fact, I’ve beaten this team numerous time with the Kingdom Of Doing. Or maybe not, now that I think of it there may be more than one of these on my meta, one with pet names and one unnamed. Either way, sometimes it comes down to who wins the coin toss with the snakes. This time I lost the initial coin toss but thought I could recover. I did, and was clearly winning when my opponent lost the second coin toss and fled. I think they may have skipped a turn at some point but I’m confident that I had it in the bag anyways.
Record: 1-0

Battle 2: Vektorious
Son Of Animus, Fel Flame, Kovok
vs. Anubisath Idol, Emerald Proto-Whelp, Unborn Val’kyr

070414DI went on quite a tear with this team when Vek first introduced it on 4/28/14. Since then I’ve been losing more with it but it’s still a really fun team to use. I was fairly certain that I would lose this battle if my opponent played well. My only was hope was Black Claw against those shields. Well, apparently I have the ultimate turn skip hax skills because once again I got a free turn due to inaction from my opponent. The weather was never changed (the idol had Stoneskin), I was able to get Black Claw up and then swap to Son OF Animus. Big time heals. My only problem was that Black Claw caused the idol to die too fast so I didn’t get the full benefit from Touch Of The Animus. After Lift-Off missed and the dragon died the valk ran. I should mention that I’ve been stooping low and using snakes but I still won’t touch that dirty valk. That thing is truly disgusting to me right now.
Record: 2-0

Battle 3: Jurassic Three
Stunted Direhorn, Scalded Basilisk Hatchling, Diemetradon Hatchling
vs. Death Adder Hatchling, Death Adder Hatchling, Darkmoon Zeppelin

070414BIs there something wrong with the queue today? Third time in a row my opponent missed a turn, multiple turns in this case. I was trying to make a decent showing in what I thought was an auto loss. I was getting slaughtered when my opponent went afk. Not just for a few turns either, for the remainder of the battle. Now I can brag that my Diemetradon Hatchling took out two adders and a zep singlehandedly! My policy in situations like this is that if Blizz counts it as a win then I count it as a win. Feels cheap.
Record: 3-0

Battle 4: The Usuals
Spirit Crab, Scalded Basilisk Hatchling, Robo-Chick
vs. Darkmoon Tonk, Unborn Val’kyr, Nether Fairie Dragon

070414EUmm… I played really bad. I don’t know what I was thinking. I wanted to feign to my Spirit Crab but instead I just did a normal swap which allowed the Unborn Val’kyr to put the CoD on it. WTH? Then later I meant to pull the Spirit Crab out so it could eat the Minefield later. Not that I’m trying to abuse the bug (which I’m hoping is fixed by now) but just because that’s the smart thing to do. It didn’t matter because I let the crab die, oops. I thought these two mistakes would be the end of me but there was no Minefield. Apparently my opponent likes to put their faith in a lucky 25% stun from Shock and Awe rather than the solid damage of a Minefield. The battle ended up with my full health basilisk against the full health NFD. I won to achieve the most undeserved 4-0 ever. Hey, at least my opponent took all of their turns.
Record: 4-0

Battle 5: Party Party Party
Tiny Twister, Lil’ Bling, Macabre Marionette
vs. Squirrel, Pocket Reaver, Summit Kid

070414AThe weirdness continues. This time I get a level 24 Squirrel in the queue. It should be an easy win, but the Squirrel’s DoTs wreaked havoc on my team with the lightning ticks. At least I knew better than to try and Bash it. I think I actually might have lost, but at one point my opponent brought out the Squirrel after the death of the Pocket Reaver, then immediately swapped to the Summit Kid before taking any action. I told you it’s another odd one on this odd day in the queue. A Bone Barrage finished off the Squirrel to get my win number five. This was surely the least deserved undefeated Five Wins Or Bust ever, but that’s how it went down.
Record: 5-0

5-0 nice. Vektorious, lol. I have also done less well with this team after the initial rush. Also have experienced the problem with black Claw working against the touch, wich was a quite annoying. As you said though a fun team to bring out sometimes.

I have a question for you wise Battlers-of-Pets and since you mentioned Kovok, I dont feel so random asking. I’ve managed to get all 3 breeds (cant I get the damn shoulders to make my 4p? Of course not! But 5 Kovoks? Sure, no prob) and I cant decide which to keep. H/P (1465/289/276), H/S (1465/260/305), or H/H (1644/260/276). I’m leaning towards H/P, but perhaps H/S would be better for getting Black Claw and Digest Brains off? Hmm.

And on a related note, you mentioned a few days ago you disliked facing Ruby Droplets. I’ve also got a few of those (yeah, Im a hoarder) and wondering which to keep: H/P (1546/289/260), H/S (1546/260/289), or H/B (1546/273/273)? Again it’s the H/P vs H/S question. All their abilities save Dive are negligible damage (Acid Touch is 169 w/77 point DoT vs 154 w/70) so Im leaning towards H/S but.. doubting myself. :)

    Thank you!

I would go with H/P for both (which I have neither of unfortunately). At one point 305 speed was very desirable since there were a lot of 289 and 276 speed pets around. But lately the fast pets you encounter are really fast, like imps, rabbits and adders. So the 305 speed of an H/S Kovok is often wasted. You’ll obviously still out-speed valks and other super slow pets with an H/P.

The Ruby Droplet I’m less experienced with. I think that the H/P would be better due to Absorb hitting for more and healing more, but since Drain Blood is percentage based it wouldn’t make a difference. I only have an H/S because I bought it early in 5.4 and the breed addon I use only showed it as available in H/S. If I bought one today I’d go with the H/P. Perhaps someone more experienced with it can chime in.

    • Vek says:

My first Kovok was the H/P one, and it has never really disappointed me until I faced a H/S one. That player used the H/S one as a kind of beefy(with heal) Death Adder Hatchling and because of speed mine couldn’t do much.

But as Disco said. 305 speed had it’s time before 5.3. Then 305 speed was very nice to use, especially on my old favourite Scalded Basilisk Hatchling. The “only” true danger, except birds, where the rare Rocket Chicken. But after 5.3 we had priority move Direhorns, 325 speed Lil’Bling, 309 speed Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling(hate that 309 speed!), 341 speed Death Adder Hatchlings and so on.

Though I don’t have a H/H one I do see the merit in using that instead of H/P. 29 power does not make a huge difference, but 200+ health might make you last a turn longer.

Ruby Droplet, I don’t recall if it was on Warcraftpets or the Us blizzard forums there was a long thread about the pros and cons of the different breeds. I think it came down to personal preference. Speed of course is useful to get a heal in before your opponent can harm you, and the percentage based heal is not affected by power. So I think you should use the a bit differently. Best way is just to try them out, if you care to level them both up.

    Hi guys!

Forgive me for putting this in such a random place, but does anyone have any suggestions on a team composition for a H/S Skunky Alemenal ?

Maybe cleansing rain for brew bolt?

  4. Dan says:

netherwhelp, scalded basilisk hatchling and skunky alemental

  5. Mark says:

Thanks disco, would appreciate it <3.

    @Dan: I Don't have a netherwhelp :(

    • Vek says:

I have never really managed to get a team to play to Skunky Alementals strengths. The times I have used it is mostly as an Elemental killer. Cleansing rain, as you suggested, or Acid Rain would be a nice buff. But most pets with rain abilities can already handle elementals well(unless you go all out critter attacks).

Some months ago I ran into a particularly annoying team that included an alemental with the hit debuff. Sadly I can’t remember the two partners.. only that it was annoying as hells.

Hope disco can help you better than me.

  6. Mark says:

Yeah, I’ve actually been thinking of an hit debuff team. Maybe by putting the Alemental under Sandstorm/darkness. A nice gimmick team, but I could see it backfiring a lot too :(

    • Discodoggy says:

I’m having no luck with this pet. I’ve tried a few different teams that haven’t been successful, nothing even worth mentioning. I’m still trying lol, but I haven’t had much time to battle these past few days.
