Gone Wildin’
After replying to a thread today on the WoW forums where someone was asking for team ideas with easily obtainable pets I had my own idea. Why not add a new daily where I’m only allowed to use wild caught pets. That seems like a doable challenge. I don’t expect to win as much as usual but I’ll give it a shot. Three to five battles seems like a reasonable amount.

Battle 1: Disco’s Destroyers
Spirit Crab, Mongoose Pup, Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
vs. Lil’ Ragnaros, Curios Wolvar Pup, Pierre

011814GYay a chance to use my three favorite pets! Although I will admit that the Basilisk and Spirit Crab have been seeing less use lately. I’m too chicken to queue with a pet that is so gimped when slower (the Basilisk). It wasn’t a problem this battle, the Basilisk was faster than all of the opposing pets. When fighting Ragnaros it’s always a crap shoot, you never know when that damn trap was going to go off. I really love using Dive when Rag goes under, although I missed this time. I ended up taking both of the Magma Traps with my Spirit Crab, one denied the undead racial. This wasn’t enough to deny the win, the Wolvar Pup was the final pet and ended up running in shame from defeat by 100% Thrashes.
Record: 1-0

Note: I was about to face an Idol, Chrominius and Val’kyr team and was wondering how to possibly pull of the win when my opponent ran away. Fear my squirrels? I don’t think I’ll count it.

Battle 2: Acorn Berserkers
Rabid Nut Varmint 5000, Grizzly Squirrel, Infected Squirrel
vs. Chrominius, Chrominius, Chrominius

011814FThere a lot more Chrominius’ on this meta than my last. Paired with a Val’kyr I see what people are trying to do, but three of them together? I just don’t think it’s that great of a pet to warrant this comp. I cast Creeping Fungus then got Howled so I swapped. The Nut Varmint cast Extra Plating, Rabid Strike then spammed Thrash. Rabid Strike and all three Thrashes does nice damage. This sequence repeated and it was pretty much done. The Infected Squirrel finished off the last Chrominius before the Grizzly was even needed.
Record: 2-0

Battle 3: Crackling Lashes
Tiny Twister, Scourged Whelpling, Bandicoon
vs. Fiendish Imp, Fiendish Imp, Chi-Chi

011814HI didn’t have much hope here with a Lightning team versus two Imps. Then I made the mistake of not committing. When faced with a battle like this you either have to go for it and cast Lightning or have a plan B. I didn’t go for it right away but also didn’t have a plan B lol. I tried to use Lightning later but it was too late. Bad play. I hate to make my Bandicoon look bad, I used to love that pet. 325 speed Tongue Lash isn’t so great against 333 speed humanoids.
Record: 2-1

Battle 4: Ratty Dread
Robo-Chick, Scourged Whelpling, Black Rat
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Magical Crawdad, Fossilized Hatchling

011814DMagical Crawdad is bad enough but paired with a Val’kyr it’s a difficult combo to handle. You may not believe this but the Robo-Chick has done well in the past against Crawdads due to its burst from Wind-Up. With my Rat having strong attacks against both the Val’kyr and the Fossilized Hatchling I thought I had a decent chance here. Two things went really bad. A Haunt took out my Rat before I could get the Survival off. This I would be able to recover from. A Wind-Up missed which allowed the Crawdad to get off a Wish. I wasn’t able to recover from that.
Record: 2-2

Another Note: Just won with Mad Batter against Crawdad, EPW and Disgusting Oozeling but my opponent went afk for a few turns. Normally I’d count something like that as a win, but tonight I want my wild pets to earn it. I’ll try one more time.

Battle 5: Mad Batterr
Eternal Strider, Robo-Chick, Electrified Razortooth
vs. Blue Dragonhawk Hatchling, Jademist Dancer, Imperial Moth

011814BThis was a very fun battle due to all of the strong attacks and coverage. I thought that the Imperial Moth would start so I started with the Chick. Instead the Dragonhawk came out first. Sometimes you don’t want to waste a turn by swapping but this was not one of those times. Coflagrate would make quick work of my mech. I swapped to the Razortooth. A couple of crits by my Razortooth (one on a Blood In The Water) evened out my lost turn. The Dragonhawk won the match-up but only with 38 hp left. That 38 hp was a big advantage for my opponent, now after I bring a pet in to kill the Dragonhawk my opponent could choose a hard counter to either of my pets. I chose the Strider even though I should have gone with Chick for the 100% move Batter. The 95% Water Jet didn’t fail me and of course the Moth came out. I swapped to the Chick then a lot of swapping went on. Overtune is absolutely lovely against fliers. At some point my Chick used it to get rid of the flying bonus. The Moth and the Chick had taken most of the damage in all the swapping. The Moth took out the Chick but the Strider came in to finish it with a Water Jet. Could the dps master Jademist take out the Strider in time? Not when it puts up Cleansing Rain. Bad call. Three Water Jets show that a lot can be done with wild pets :)
Record: 3-2
