Win Five Or Bust
If today is anything like yesterday then I could be here for a while. Seriously, I lost a lot yesterday. I remember the posts on the forums about “Direhorn Tuesdays” when all the (then OP) Direhorns would come out to wreck the meta. Yesterday was like that except with Death Adders instead of Direhorns. I think I’ll call it “Snake Pit Tuesday” assuming it’s the same from here on out. I certainly hope not! Enough about yesterday and snakes, let me get on with it.

Battle 1: Bring Out The Juice
Fiendish Imp, Living Fluid, Scourged Whelpling
vs. Anubisath Idol, Rotten Little Helper, Lucky Quillen Cub

011514KI picked up a Living Fluid for cheap the other day and just threw it in with my tried and true “Bring Out The…” Imp and Scourged Whelpling combo. If that combo is still this good now imagine how good it was in 5.2 (with the Corefire Imp). One of my winningest combos ever. Except versus Idols. To make matters worse this was a Demolish spammer. I’m convinced someone at Blizzard just adores the Idol. Finally this pet was to be brought in line in 5.4 then Demolish somehow gets “broken”. What an evil coincidence. Oh, I lost. Losing to a Lucky Quillen Cub makes one re-evaluate one’s dedication to pet battles.
Record: 0-1

Battle 2: A Dreadful Encounter
Droplet Of Y’Shaarj, Scourged Whelpling, Snarly
vs. Wild Jade Hatchling, Clockwork Gnome, Cogblade Raptor

011514JMy first reaction was to get in weather war and try to keep the Cleansing Rain up and Lightning away, but then I decided to just go with the Lightning. After my Droplet finished one cycle of Dreadful Breath I went ahead and changed the weather to Cleansing Rain so the mechs wouldn’t get a damage bonus. It was a fairly easy win. It was looking like I wasn’t even going to need Snarly when the Gnome and Raptor ran away. I wasn’t too excited about the P/P Droplet but so far it’s been doing well for me.
Record: 1-1

Battle 3: Jaguero Souvenir
Ominous Flame, Baby Ape, Fiendish Imp
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Death Adder Hatchling, Gilnean Raven

011514HThankfully it wasn’t an S/S Death Adder. I had two strong attacks against flyers in Nether Gate and Spiritfire Bolt and they sure came in handy. The bird wasn’t much of a factor. I should mention it missed a Nocturnal Strike in Darkness. I still thought I was done for after my Ape killed the Adder and had the Val’kyr to deal with. I forgot how handy Clobber on a faster pet is. Barrage, Clobber, Barrage, Smash took the Val’kyr to 0 and my Imp survived the undead round with less than 100 hp for the win. Phew.
Record: 2-1

Battle 4: My First Tuesday
Fledgling Buzzard, Warbot, Mongoose Pup
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Sprite Darter Hatchling, Blighthawk

011513BWarbots are good against Val’kyrs. A Minefield goes down for the swap and Extra Plating mitigates the Curse Of Doom. I thought the Val’kyr was being smart by waiting to Haunt until it had low health so it could eat a Minefield when it came back in, but when the full health Sprite Darter and the low health Valkyr were both on the back line after the Blighthawk died my opponent brought the Darter in. I’m not sure why. That, a well-timed Dive and a poor performing Slicing Winds meant an easy victory.

Battle 5: Ratty Dread
Black Rat, Scourged Whelpling, Robo-Chick
vs. Lil’ Ragnaros, Pierre, Curious Wolvar Pup

I recently lost most of my PBT info after my server transfer (I think it was related). When I remade some of the teams I forgot to change all of the moves. I had a Robo-Chick with Peck and Supercharge rather than my preferred Batter and Wind-Up. This was shaping up to be an interesting battle when my opponent fled after about ten rounds. I may have been winning a little but with those stupid traps you never know what can happen. Perhaps real life was calling. I changed the Robo-Chick’s moves for next time.
Record: 4-1

Battle 6: Disco’s Destroyers
Mongoose Pup, Spirit Crab, Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
vs. Anubisath Idol, Anubisath Idol, Anubisath Idol

011514DNot gonna happen. What an annoying team to have to battle. I was able to take out one and get another down to 32 hp before dying. I don’t really want to pull out an anti-idol team, that’s no fun. For a brief moment I had hope but then the Dive missed.
Record: 4-2

Battle 7: Painsurge
Droplet Of Y’Shaarj, Spirit Crab, Snarly
vs. Fiendish Imp, Unborn Val’kyr, Chi-Chi

011514FWhy are people so bad when it comes to Curse Of Doom? This person pretty much had the battle wrapped up at the end provided rng didn’t screw them. My Spirit Crab was the last pet facing the Val’kyr, the Imp was on the back line and my Crab had Wild Magic applied. All my opponent had to do was Slash a few times then let the Imp clean it up. Instead they applied a useless Curse Of Doom at the end of an otherwise well-played battle. The wasted turn ended up being the difference between a draw and a win. This last win isn’t easy tonight.
Record: 4-2-1

Battle 8: A Bloody Dream
Darkmoon Rabbit, Snarly, Infested Bear Cub
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Blighthawk, Stitched Pup

011514GConsume this buddy! I bet they were scared to see a bunny. Too bad it didn’t have any critter attacks. The Val’kyr and Stitched Pup combo is so annoying. You definitely don’t want to get Howled while Haunt is up so it forces a swap. There came a point where I couldn’t afford any more wasted turns so I sacrificed Snarly to a Howl in order to take out the pup. At the end it was back and forth, I thought I was going to get a bleed on the Blighthawk for the showdown versus the Bear but my bunny died during the Val’kyrs undead turn. I thought I was in trouble because the Blighthawk would come out ahead with its heal. A Lift-Off miss and a Maul crit allowed me to win. There’s my number five. It wasn’t as easy as last time but just as fun :)
