Today’s Team: My Friend Gooey
H/H Gooey Sha-ling (Creeping Ooze, Breath Of Sorrow, Death and Decay)
H/S Restless Shadeling (Arcane Blast, Plagued Blood, Phase Shift)
S/S Fiendish Imp (Burn, Immolation, Nether Gate)
I still love the Imp!

Strategy:
So far the Gooey Sha-ling has not impressed me as an enemy pet. I think the reason why is because I’ve never seen it in one of the roles I think it could be good at. An H/H Gooey Sha-ling finally became available on my auction house so I snatched it up with the intent of using it on a Plagued Blood team. I like having pets with large health pools for absorbing with Plagued Blood and Touch Of The Animus. I’m sure an argument could be made for the P/P or S/S but this is what I wanted. The plan is to start with the Imp to Immolate and Gate if it’s beneficial. Then the Sha-ling will come in to put down Death and Decay and Creeping Ooze. I’ll then swap to the Shadeling to apply Plagued Blood. I chose Phase Shift since there’s no avoidance or mitigation on this team. It seems silly to give a 273 speed pet a dodge move but you never know; it may end up being faster than something out there.

Concerns:
Now that I’ve used the Gooey Sha-ling and made a few teams I’m still not too impressed. There’s not a good anti-Val’kyr component to this team. Oh well, I can’t cater every team to stopping Val’kyrs. I guess I could but that wouldn’t be fun for me. There’s also no anti-Sandstorm. The more I realize how many common pets I can’t counter the more scared I become. I better stop and just queue.

The Opposing Team:
H/H Scooter The Snail
H/S Effervescent Glowfly
P/P Xu-Fu

The Battle:
020314CI started with the Imp of course. It had to face Scooter. The Imp cast Immolation and Scooter shielded. No problem, the Imp just Gated Scooter out. Xu-Fu was brought in by the Gate. After taking a hit with my Imp I swapped to the Restless Shadeling. Guess what? I’m actually faster than Xu-Fu. With the help of the Imp’s Immolation ticks the Shadeling easily took out Xu-Fu. Dodging two rounds with a faster Phase Shift certainly helped, as did the Plagued Blood. Scooter replaced Xu-Fu then the Shadeling also took out Scooter. I never knew the undead shadow thing could do so well. It just happened to be luckily faster than two of the opposing pets, I won’t count on this happening regularly. It really wasn’t much of a contest by that point, the Glowfly needed to take out the Imp and the Sha-ling. Just to be safe I cast Immolation again and let the Sha-ling take out the Glowfly. Not too exciting of a battle.

Change Breath of Sorrow to Darkness, and BOOM…Sandstorm counter. :)

Yeah I changed this up after a few battles. My initial inclination is to stay away from Darkness on healing teams but Sandstorm is just too troublesome. It’s funny how now that the meta has settled in neither Val’kyrs or Adders are my most hated enemy, it’s still those damn Idols. Adders are close though.

Indeed. I could understand using Breath if your meta was really REALLY Mech heavy (w/Gnomes that heal, etc.), but Darkness can screw with Idols pretty badly at times. I’m not even sure if I HAVE a most hated opposing pet anymore…cuz for the most part (though indicative of your study/post on the WoW forums, Valks still kinda run rampant on my meta) I have teams that will stomp them if the queue decides to put me against the same opponent 2 or more times consecutively.
