Today’s Team: Swarm Of Heroes
P/P Emerald Shale Hatchling (Burn, Poison Spit, Stoneskin)
P/P Sen’Jin Fetish (Shadow Slash, Immolate, Sear Magic)
H/P Shrine Fly (Scratch, Cocoon Strike, Swarm)

Strategy:
I’m really milking this “Heroes” combo of the elemental spider and the Sen’Jin Fetish. I even went out and got a P/P Emerald Shale Hatchling for some extra punch. It’s really fun to discover that a pet I thought was useless can actually do quite well in PvP. Like the teams of the past few days this team is based around DoTs and a double damage debuff, in this case Swarm. I’ll apply the DoTs and then hopefully amplify the damage with Swarm.

Concerns:
The two non-flying pets are slow. I’ve been running this team a lot with about every Stampeder/Swarmer I can get my hands on. My meta must be learning how to counter it.

The Opposing Team:
P/P Kun-Lai Runt
H/S Amber Moth
H/S Amber Moth

The Battle:
020114AThe Fetish started against the Runt and missed a Shadow Slash. It happens. I didn’t want to stay in to take the sure stun from Deep Freeze so I swapped to the Emerald Shale Hatchling but got stunned anyways. I went back to the Sen’Jin Fetish and took out the Runt but got taken to 0 hp. The first Moth came in and used Cocoon Strike so the undead turn was wasted. I brought the Emerald Shale Hatchling in to watch a Moth Dust miss. I got the DoT up then the other Moth was brought in. It also missed its Moth Dust so this was looking like rng was going to give me the win. The elemental and the flier went at it, the Amber Moth won. The Shrine Fly came in after the death of the Emerald Shale Hatchling to finish off the first Amber Moth with a Scratch. Then there was a problem. With no DoT up the Shrine Fly is fairly weak in this situation. It would have get all three rounds of Swarm off then a Scratch. I’ve won plenty of times this way but it’s usually very close. Finally a Moth Dust hit and put the Shrine Fly to sleep. The damage and loss of turn was too much to come back from. Tonight the Heroes lose.

Yeah I’m inclined to agree. As pet battlers we know that there is no such thing as a perfect team. There is always a counter out there and that’s what makes the game so fun (and balanced as Disco was saying the other day). I think this team is trying to be too many things at once. Yes, if you drop shadow slash and immolate for flame breath and wild magic you’ve given up one of your only big-hitting moves and will get beaten by many shield teams, but maybe just accept that and take the gamble on an even better DOT team.

      Death or glory my friend!

So, I just ran a team based on this one. Tiny Shale spider w/ same move set, senjin fetish w/ corrected move set 😛 flame breath wild magic sear, and tiny flame fly w/ burn immolate and swarm. My shrine fly is only 23.

First off, thanks for getting me to check out the Tiny Shale Spider. What a tankee lil tough guy. Might try him out with the alt move set as well.

Ran into a scorched earth, double immolation team. Yeah. Stoneskin was so nice there, but wild magic just is so awesome when they provide their own inescapable dot!

Luckily, I didn’t run into any good counter teams, but Wild Magic just shines here on this type of team. I did run into a team w/ a shielded emerald whelpling who got owned by wild magic + swarm. Took a big chomp out of my Shrine fly, but it was too late when it tried to heal up as it was too low on health and had the shattered defense debuff.

Super fun team! I forgot how much I liked my Shrine Fly.

I totally get your move set out of having to face so many Idols. Use Wild Magic and Flame breath anyways!!!!
