Today’s Team: Taladorks
P/B Royal Peacock (Savage Talon, Arcane Storm, Feign Death)
P/P Nexus Whelpling (Frost Breath, Mana Surge, Wild Magic)
P/P Twilight Fiendling (Creepy Chomp, Creeping Ooze, Siphon Life)

Rationale:
One thing that I have never liked about using the Nexus Whelpling along with Mana Surge is having the dragon change the weather itself. The P/P Nexus Whelpling only has 1400 health so it goes down pretty fast while doing massive damage each turn. The Royal Peacock is a solution to the problem of the dragon wasting a turn changing the weather. It can cast Arcane Storm to change the weather to arcane winds then use Feign Death to swap out to the Nexus Whelpling. Then there’s a full health dragon ready to use Mana Surge in arcane winds. Awesome. In order to ensure that the dragon comes in after the Feign Death the third pet needs to be 1400 hp or less. While browsing through pets that have the required hp and are strong against humanoids I encountered the Twilight Fiendling. I was going to give it a shot until it lost then find a better third. It won three battles so I suppose it earned its way to the write-up. To create some alternative synergy I gave the Nexus Whelpling Wild Magic to help the fiendling’s DoTs.

Concerns:
The Twilight Fiendling is usually included on people’s “worst PvP pets” list. I also may be trying too hard to create synergy with Wild Magic and the DoTs. I like to have mech counters on Mana Surge teams since mechs soft-counter the magic attacks.

The Opposing Team:
H/H Emerald Turtle
B/B Winter Reindeer
H/H Clefthoof Runt

The Battle:
120714AI was joking around yesterday about how bad I am now. It’s all fun and games joking around when I’m winning, but when I lose to a weak team due a mistake it’s very annoying. Sigh, here’s what happened: somehow I started with the Nexus Whelpling instead of the Royal Peacock. I don’t know if I misclicked or if I didn’t click at all, all I know is that I was surprised to see the Nexus Whelpling out first when I wanted the peacock. The reindeer was the first enemy pet out, I decided to waste a turn by swapping to the peacock. It took a stun from the Headbutt on the swap so I started with a big disadvantage. I’ve taken damage while giving none and my bird is stunned, leaving the reindeer to put up Tranquility.

120714BI thought I could overcome the initial setback now that I was free to implement my plan. Arcane Storm and Feign Death left me with a dragon ready to pound the opposition. It killed the reindeer in three rounds and had one round left to act against the Clefthoof Runt. Rather than use Frost Breath I decided to go with Wild Magic for the Twilight Fiendling’s two DoTs. The Twilight Fiendling came in, put up the DoTs and was able to take out the beast. It got off a Creeping Ooze on the Emerald Turtle before dying. I brought out the Royal Peacock. The turtle had Emerald Bite so this was going to be a strong attack versus strong attack battle. At 1969 health the turtle proved too hard to take down for the bird and the dragon, especially when two of the bird’s attacks hit low. I can only blame myself for my initial mistake.
