Five Wins Or Bust
Oh yeah, Saturday. Time to knock out some wins. Five, to be exact.

Battle 1: Better Than One
Hydraling, Sen’Jin Fetish, Lil’ Bling
vs. Warbot, Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling, Lil’ Bling

120614DI started with the Hydraling when I shouldn’t have. Having both used and faced the Warbot so much I should have known the mine layer would most likely start, which means I shoul have started with the Sen’Jin Fetish. Damn you WoW and your fun expansion making me pet battle a lot less! I’ve gotten worse. I immediately swapped to the Sen’Jin Fetish before the mines went down. I was able to cleanse them away but the Warbot finished the mask and put up Extra Plating. Dang, now the Hydraling had to hit on the really high end or else more mines would be laid. Sometimes I think that I have a guardian angel of blogging because I hit at the high end at the important moment as I often do while documenting my encounters. Second mines would have been hard to overcome. It still may have seemed like it was going my opponent’s way until the Hydraling versus Lil’ Bling face-off happened. Two words: Shell Armor. No making it rain for you!
Record: 1-0

Battle 2: Teroscurry
Frostwolf Ghostpup, Prairie Mouse, Teroclaw Hatchling
vs. Kun-Lai Runt, Iron Starlette, Nexus Whelpling

120614KI told you, I’m bad now. I could have won this one but made a dumb mistake at the end. I thought that the Teroclaw Hatchling would survive an attack from the Iron Starlette without a heal, then I could use Dodge, then finish off the mech. Unfortunately, my calculation was based on taking damage as an elemental while Nature’s Ward was active. Nature’s Ward expired and so did my bird. The battle was so close because a crit prevented the mouse from using Survival, but I still should have won if not for my error. Two battles, two mistakes, I’ll try not to continue the streak.
Record: 1-1

Battle 3: Hot Bug
Soul Of The Forge, Fire Beetle, Parched Lizard
vs. Kun-Lai Runt, Iron Starlette, Dread Hatchling

120614CI started with my elemental and I made the right call since the Dread Hatchling was out first. Darkness, Extra Plating, Nocturnal Strike… missed. Three cheers for elementals! The Soul Of The Forge won the head to head against the flyer, then swapped to the beetle when Deep Freeze was incoming. The critter racial countered the possibility of a stun. I was already heading for a win before the beetle hit all three Flanks twice in a row to take out the Iron Starlette before it had a chance to let loose its nuke. After that it was easy clean up of the KLR. No mistakes were made, phew.
Record: 2-1

Battle 4: Magic Virus
Puddle Terror, Brilliant Bloodfeather, Harmonious Porcupette
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Infected Squirrel, Dread Hatcling

120614BI got my Puddle Jumper today. It has a decent enough move set although nothing jumped out at me when it comes to synergy. This can be good sometimes, in this case I thought what the heck, I’ll just pair another pet I want to use with the Puddle Jumper. I chose the Brilliant Bloodfeather for kicks and then the Harmonious Porcupette to give the blood bird some defense. The end result was a team that I wasn’t too sure about so when I saw the opposing team I didn’t think I had much of a chance. I was wrong, I won.

120614AI started by deciding to eat the Haunt/Creeping Fungus/Stampede combo with my porc while it got off some strong Scratches (the first one crit) and left a Celestial Blessing for the Puddle Jumper. The aquatic finished off the undead squirrel and used Dive to avoid the Corpse Explosion on the undead round. The valk came back to use Haunt on the aquatic then I swapped to the blood bird when the Dread Hatchling came in. The Dread Hatchling killed my bird but it had low hp so the Puddle Jumper was able to finish it with one Punch. The stun, the soft-countering of undead damage and a Dive on the valks undead round meant the Puddle Jumper was able to grab the win for me. The Scratch crit on the first round turned out to be a huge factor since I don’t think I would have been able to take out the valk out without it. To the forums to complain about crits!
Record: 3-1

Battle 5: Greatest Misses
Crimson Spore, Mechanical Scorpid, Restless Shadeling
vs. Masked Tanuki, Emerald Boa, Twilight Spider (all level 24)

120614GIn my pre-WoD write-up predicting which pets would be good I included the new spores. Umm, can I have a do over? They’re not bad, but “must-haves”? I’m not so sure about that after some minimal spore use. So far it’s been hard for me to win with them, maybe because I’ve been using them on wacky teams like this one. Having said that, this battle wasn’t much of a contest due to the level discrepancy and what seemed like a new pet battler on the other side. They never swapped against the Mechanical Scorpid when poisoned by the spore. Puncture Wound from the P/P mech hurt really bad.
Record: 4-1

Battle 6: Not Magical
Zomstrok, Blighted Squirrel, Sentinel’s Companion
vs. Scourged Whelpling, Scourged Whelpling, Scourged Whelpling

120614FUgh, just ugh. I looked at my three pets and saw that both undead pets had 1546 hp. I wished that I had a few Spirit Crabs right before started with the Sentinel’s Companion. This battle was simply a matter of whether or not I could take out the three Dreadful Breath spammers before my back line pets died to the AoE (which I why I kept the higher health pets on the back line). Man, why would someone use a team like this? Probably some jerk posted this strategy on their pet battle blog. Oh wait, that would be me. The Sentinel’s Companion was able to take out the first undead pet then use Ethereal on the undead round. I just realized that this was supposed to be a Moonlight/Creeping Fungus team haha. I took Ethereal instead. Phew, my mistake rate had dropped below 50%, good thing I brought it back up. Next I brought my Infected Squirrel who used Woodchipper and Stampede on the second Scourged Whelpling. It was able to survive long enough to get off a Stampede against the final Scourged Whelpling. In came Zomstrok for a double damage Carpnado for 1236 damage. I beleive that all three of the Scourged Whelplings were P/S; I personally prefer the H/H.
