The Quick Three
Aaahhh! Second night in a row that something has come up right before I do the daily. I’m gonna try to squeeze in three quick ones.

Battle 1: Who Me?
Prairie Mouse, Soul Of The Forge, Mechanical Scorpid
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Stitched Pup, Moon Moon

120314EI totally thought the enemy strategy was to CoD, Haunt then Howl. After a few rounds of no Haunt I correctly assumed that it was an Unholy Ascension valk. I thought my Prairie Mouse was going to be a hero but Moon Moon cast Dazzling Dance so the speed move on the mouse wasn’t very effective. What was effective was the threat of unloading the Mechanical Scorpid’s Wind-Up on the beast. I forced Moon Moon to swap a few times when I came in with my mech. When Moon Moon didn’t swap the poor beast got killed with a 1200+ damage Wind-Up. I totally thought I would lose this one when the battle started so I’m still scratching my head wondering how the mech survived the battle with full health. Too much swapping by my opponent I guess.
Record: 1-0

Battle 2: Cogswell Nosebiter
Golden Dawnfeather, Sen’Jin Fetish, Cogblade Raptor
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Stitched Pup, Fishy

120314FI threw this team together hoping to let the P/P Golden Dawnfeather do some enhanced damage in combination with Exposed Wounds or Wild Magic. It didn’t ever really work out due my opponent swapping when they should, and Fishy’s priority move making both Quills and Batter less effective. I can’t say that I played this one particularly well. I don’t know why I’ve been using the S/S Cogblade Raptor lately, there’s no need for all that speed right now in this newly forming meta. I really feel like it’s the pre-meta until people get all of their new pets leveled. I certainly hope we can come up with new ways to beat the clonedance strategy.
Record: 1-1

Battle 3: Metal Bacon Fetish
Fiendish Imp, Sen’Jin Fetish, Lifelike Mechanical Frostboar
vs. Lil’ Smoky, Lil’ Tarecgosa, Mini Mindslayer

120314BWhy yes, brining your Mini Mindslayer into the mask’s strong damage is a good idea. I shouldn’t talk crap about playing well given how I played in the last battle. Often when I get a new pet I make it a third member for the imp/mask combo, hoping to relive the glory of the Bog Bastards. It hasn’t happened yet. This battle wasn’t much of a contest; the imp was just too good with its control and back line damage/healing.
Record: 2-1

Bonus Battle: Who’s The Best?
Elekk Plushie, Fiendish Imp, Sen’Jin Fetish
vs. Xu-Fu, Celestial Dragon, Lifelike Mechanical Frostboar

120314CNo, your eyes aren’t deceiving you! This is the first battle of the Elekk Plushie challenge. PvE gets a plushie challenge so why shouldn’t PvP? The challenge is to win ten PvP battles with the Elekk Plushie. The number is so low because I don’t expect to win many :). Unbelievably, I did win this first battle of the challenge. The situation came up where the plushie was actually useful, right after Xu-Fu charged Prowl I swapped it in to soak the damage. I couldn’t help but feel a bit abusive. That was the only time that I used it, the rest of the time it was the imp and fetish doing their usual butt kicking. Yes, the combo really is that good. Of course it wasn’t easy and I really only won because of the strong damage against the boar to finish the battle. Still, it’s a nice way to start. I now expect to lose nine in a row. Or maybe not, I can think of a few other two pet combos that might give the Elekk Plushie a chance at winning.
EPC record: 1-0

So how are you finding the new engineering pets to work out for you so far? Performing better or worse than you expected?

I still only have an H/H Lifelike Mechanical Frostboar. I’ve faced a few S/S breeds and they’ve been doing well with Decoy. The H/H hasn’t been great for me but it hasn’t been bad either. I’m a little bit disappointed in the Mechanical Scorpid. The 20% proc for poison makes Barbed Stinger unreliable for applying poison. I haven’t given up on it by any means, I just haven’t found a great team for it yet. I have a P/P but I just realized that it also comes in an S/S, I HAVE to get one of those. Wind-Up, Blinding Poison and Extra Plating will work well.

Is it just me, or does Mountain Panda with Scratch/Rock Barrage/Burrow seem incredibly useful in our MPD/Valk meta?

    • Discodoggy says:

I don’t have much experience with it. What other pets are you using it with?

I actually tried him with Imp/Fetish! (Thanks!)

It worked pretty well! I had a strong attack vs Valk, Burrow to dodge Haunt etc and Rock Barrage is a fairly efficient answer for decoys in addition to synergizing with Wild Magic.

The team brings more than enough Elemental damage to provide coverage vs other Mechs. I’m pleased with it, it’s earned a spot in my rotation for now. :)
