Disco’s Three
There were a lot of big bullies around, so I brought even bigger bullies: my three best teams.

1:15 – Kid, Look What You Done Did
Fiendish Imp, Ghastly Kid, Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
win vs. Graves, Weebomination, Fossilized Hatchling

I spent the entire battle afraid of getting my second loss. I was so worried that at one point I called my opponent an idiot. Opps, sorry.

6:25 – Owngrinders
Graves, Stonegrinder, Curious Wolvar Pup
win vs. Fiendish Imp, Unborn Val’kyr, Magical Crawdad

Rng was nice enough to me.

10:50 – Rick Frostly
Graves, Ghastly Kid, Frostwolf Ghostpup
win vs. Fragment Of Anger, Jungle Beak, Emerald Whelpling

Didn’t really need my big guns against this team.

Kid, look what you done did has been my favourite team lately. 95% win record.
Sometimes I put the new Murkidan in to replace the imp, but the loss of speed really hurts.

The team is excellent vs MPD combos…unbeaten so far. Lost badly to 3 x Nether Whelp though. Go figure?

    • Discodoggy says:

Nice. I love that the imp can still take care of business. Have you been able to beat many Graves teams?

      • Loki says:

They’ve been appearing less often lately, but Graves has been beatable as long as it’s not teamed up with two weeboms. They always start with Graves, so a couple of big hits from the kid before haunting takes them to within range of haunt/stun/thrash/gate range. Worst case is they come back later with less than 300hp and all my guys are faster.

Lost tonight to 3 x weeboms, both teams died then undead round gave them the match.

        • Discodoggy says:

What a boring team to play, 3x weeboms, that is.

          • Loki says:

I’ve come across quite a few treble teams lately. Weeboms, Frag of Anger, Moths, Frogs, even Nether Whelps. I figure that people are just messing about at the moment. Killing time.

One quick question, in your 3rd game as you were deciding how to lose the pup and you were debating on whether to use the song, would it have been better to song + bite to get the heal off and get the kill on the flyer?

  3. Vapid says:

Lately someone on my meta has started running your Done Kid team. They don’t have the S/S version of the Imp which is too bad for them, but they still have been doing well.

As I was facing it so often, I toyed around with different counter pets. Sandstorm seems ideal as it messes up the dots. The Qiraji Guardling and the Silithid Hatchling both seem nice. But the pet that ended up clearing house time and again was the Teroclaw Hatchling. The faster speed, dodge, and a heal to change the racial and ignore the haunt damage was just too much.

Finally watched the video and I’m going to be mean.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Graves is an abomination in every sense of the word. The fact that it’s an OP pet is bad enough. But the fact they used it to cross promote another game makes it even worse. And the fact that so many people use it ensures that Blizz will do the same damn thing in the future.

Hate Graves? Wait until they trot out a couple more OP pets to cross promote more of their lame games. And the pet battlers will have no one to blame but themselves because they ran like lemmings off that cliff.

Anyone who uses Graves is a scrub in my opinion.

    • Shhpeaceful says:

You are right Graves is OP. Yes it was a lame way to promote Heroes of the Storm. But, it was using Graves with MPD, or FOA, Crusher, Ore Eater that changed the game. Whoever put that combination together was a genius. The havoc it caused to the back line pets was an instant success and everyone wanted to do it. We all like to win. In our hearts we all want easy wins and that was what that combination did initially. In my meta, September was peak season. It’s only about 10-15% that I see that combo now. I should also say that I don’t have Graves, but if I did?

      • Shhpeaceful says:

Sorry, one more thing; it’s the move set of that combo that made winning so easy. Graves-Bonestorm, Graves destruction, MPD- thunderbolt, decoy, repeat then put in Crusher and shell armor=game over. I am just an average player 10-6-1 kind of guy. Against Graves, MPD combo 3-20-2. That move set was so easy anyone could do it and almost everyone did do it.

    • Discodoggy says:

I don’t feel ashamed. I used to take pride in coming up with interesting ways to beat the “meta pets”. That was when there was one or two of these extremely powerful pets to counter (FFF in 5.1, direhorns in 5.3, adder and valk in 5.4). Now there are just too many to counter regularly with “interesting” or underused pets. I can beat any of the seven 1st-tier pets when they stand alone without having to resort to 1st-tier pets myself. The problem is when they are paired (or tripled) up to make uber combos (or triplets). Graves/MPD, Graves/FoA, Graves/Teroclaw Hatchling, FoA/MPD, MPD Teroclaw Hatchling, Ore Eater/Teroclaw Hatchling, etc. Good luck fighting the teams I have been facing lately (Graves/MPD/FoA, Graves/MPD/Bone Serpent) without a 1st-tier pet.

Foxes and porcs are great, of course, but that gets boring after a time and they aren’t even a guarantee if rng doesn’t favor you with triple hits.

So rather than lose over and over to these teams, I have adapted to the meta and changed my approach to include 1st-tier pets in my counter teams. Does that mean I log on and start running Owngrinders? No, but if I start getting pounded by uber combos then I will fight back with whatever means I have available, including Graves.

Also, as I’ve said it before, I’d rather face Graves than a well played S/S Ore Eater, Teroclaw Hatchling, MPD, or even Bone Serpent. Graves is vilified due to its easy of use; any new player is a threat with Graves even against a hardened veteran. Yet I don’t think it’s THE best pet. As a matter of fact, that’s why I feel a bit more comfortable using it that some of the other 1st-tier pets. A few months back I tried to do a comparison of the Teroclaw Hatchling, Ore Eater and MPD. I cut it short, one of the reasons was because it felt much more dirty using those pets than it ever does using Graves.
