Five Wins Or Bust
I’m back from my bike trip and ready to do some battlin’.

Battle 1: Beige Bastards
Qiraji Guardling, Living Sandling, Direhorn Runt
vs. Leopard Tree Frog, Pandaren Water Spirit, Scourged Whelpling

080814AI don’t know what possessed me to run a sandstorm team to start things off but I’m glad I did. I ended up getting someone I’ve named “Coward Stanley”. I started seeing him a lot in the queue before I went on my trip. This player often gives their pets names that disparage other people’s pet choices, often calling people cowards. The funny part is that they are prone to fleeing. Anyways, this was an ugly battle with a lot of misses, a lot of stuns and those annoying Pandaren Water Spirit nukes. So many pets have some way of avoiding end of turn nukes these days it’s no wonder that you don’t see them as much. I had no avoidance moves so I had to be smart about how I was going to eat them. I let my Direhorn take most of the damage while I whittled down the enemy pets with my guardling and sandling. It was fairly close but I pulled out the win.
Record: 1-0

Battle 2: Spartan Rain
Jademist Dancer, Azure Crane Chick, Spirit Crab
vs. Singing Sunflower, Darkmoon Zeppelin, Fossilized Hatchling

080814BPhotosynthesis and Sunlight normally make me want to auto-flee but in this instance I had two weather changers to make the healing less effective. The crane put a nice hurt on the enemy pets in the beginning of the battle then the Spirit Crab finished things off. I was going to have to use my Jademist Dancer to finish off the Singing Sunflower but my opponent fled before I had the chance.
Record: 2-0

Battle 3: Gu’chi Crew IX
Fiendish Imp, Gu’chi Hatchling, Scalded Basilisk Hatchling
vs. Anubisath Idol, Blighthawk, Scourged Whelpling

080814EI didn’t think I had much of a chance here. I went a long time without having to worry about Anubisath Idols on my meta but it feels like I’m seeing more lately.  It’s hard to say what’s more annoying: idols, snakes, valks or traps. Just coming off an annoying loss I’ll go with idols for now. My opponent didn’t do the greatest job here so at the end I had a small chance to pull off a miracle if I could get all three Thrashes to hit while the idol had Shattered Defenses. A sandstorm miss made sure that no miracles took place.
Record: 2-1

Battle 4: A Dreadful Encounter
Droplet Of Y’Shaarj, Scourged Whelpling, Snarly
vs. Imperial Eagle Chick, Jademist Dancer, Emperor Crab

080814DMy high regard of clonedance was recently shat upon on the forums. People tend to think it’s a lot easier to beat than I do. I proved them right with a victory. The problem for my opponent was their refusal to deviate from strategy. If you see someone with a Dreadful Breath team and only one pet with Cleansing Rain then most likely they are going to start with that pet. If I was my opponent then I would have forgotten about clonedance and pounded the droplet before it could take its toll. Or perhaps they were being smart and assumed that I wouldn’t start with my droplet so they started with the Cyclone in order to save the Jademist Dancer for later. Oh, the head games. I didn’t feel that I had a dynamic enough of a team to deviate from my own strategy so I stuck to it (the strategy being to start with Acid Rain then use Dreadful Breath). My opponent stuck to clonedance. The Droplet Of Y’Shaarj got off two Acid Rains and a full cycle of Dreadful Breath before the Jademist Dancer finally killed it. It was enough to get me off to a great start. An unnecessary swap towards the end let Snarly tear things up with Surge. My Scourged Whelpling was able to finish off the crab for the win.
Record: 3-1

Battle 5: Instant Heroes
Emerald Shale Hatchling, Stunted Direhorn, Sen’Jin Fetish
vs. Nether Fairie Dragon, Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling, Fel Flame

080814GIt must have been a long time since I last used this team because I still had the old Sen’Jin Fetish move set loaded up (Shadow Shock and Immolation rather than Flame Breath and Wild Magic). I loaded the correct moves then had to face this team. The mech dragon caught my attention with its annoying Decoy. I hoped it would work out so I could use Stampede against it. The battle started with the NFD versus my rock spider. The dragon won the head to head thanks to the dragonkin racial and its faster avoidance. I brought in my direhorn so that a priority Trihorn Charge could take out the dragon. The 85% accuracy was scary but it hit. Then Trihorn Shield was cast to tilt the battle in my favor. It blocked both Bombing Run and Flyby while Stampede took down the Decoy. The direhorn won that head to head battle then got off a round of Stampede on the Fel Flame. Thanks to the Shattered Defenses the mask easily took it out for the win.
Record: 4-1

Battle 6: Blizzy McSurgester
Rotten Little Helper, Tiny Snowman, Tundra Penguin
vs. Jademist Dancer, Macabre Marionette, Stunted Direhorn

080814HThings were going well enough until I took a calculated risk by brining the Rotten Little Helper in against the Macabre Marionette. I figured I had a good chance of casting Booby-Trapped Presents before death. I could win the 260 speed coin toss and cast before the puppet even has a turn or not all three barrages could hit. Even then, they would have to hit high to kill my humanoid. Lo and behold, I lost the toss, all three hit, all three hit high. Hilarious. I was pretty much out of it after that but to make matters worse the Tiny Snowman’s Deep Freeze missed. Ouch.
Record: 4-2

Battle 7: A Bloody Dream
Darkmoon Rabbit, Snarly, Infested Bear Cub
vs. Tiny Snowman, Kun-La Runt, Tranquil Mechanical Yeti

080814JFor a pet that I spent 53k on I don’t use the DMR much. I’m always afraid I’m going to run into an idol, but that should never be as much of an issue with the undead bear on the team. No idols here, just some Deep Freezing, Blizzard-tossing snow pets. Some well timed uses of Dodge and some good swaps meant my bloodstained rabbit lasted a long time in this battle. My opponent played well with the exception of letting the Tiny Snowman die on the back line from the bleed. The rabbit was able to make sure the Ion Cannon was never used due to the threat of Dodge. It turned out to be a fairly easy victory. This has been such an awesome day in the queue. There’s been a wide variety of pets and not too much spam of the common top pets. Too bad it can’t be like this everyday.
Record: 5-2
