Today’s Team: Dropping Birds
P/S Warpstalker Hatchling (Blinkstrike, Triple Snap, Ravage)
H/H Restless Shadeling (Arcane Blast, Plagued Blood, Death Coil)
S/S Fiendish Imp (Burn, Immolation, Nether Gate)

Strategy:
There’s flyers all over my meta tonight. Almost every battle I have fought so far features either a Gilnean Raven or Chi-Chi. I got fed up with them and made this team. Its sole purpose is to destroy flyers. With Nether Gate, Arcane Blast and Blinkstrike this team is well equipped to take down the sudden influx of flying fiends. I chose the Restless Shadeling because I don’t use it much and wanted to give it a spin and also because there’s some synergy between Plagued Blood and Immolation. So far this team is undefeated in four battles, which is sort of surprising. I hope I can keep that streak going. I’ll start with the Fiendish Imp and then probably go to the Restless Shadeling for Plagued Blood.

Concerns:
There are no counters to the top two pets of the current meta: the Death Adder Hatchling and Unborn Val’kyr. I did beat an Unborn Val’Kyr and Chi-Chi team already but I got lucky with a timely miss from my opponent. I let the beefy Restless Shadeling absorb the Haunt damage, I’ll have to do that again if I face another Unborn Val’kyr. While Blinkstrike is the anti-flyer move of the century (since it’s a priority magic attack), the Warpstalker Hatchling is a one-trick pony. It’s quite mediocre when not facing birds. I almost went with a Mulgore Hatchling in that spot since I’ve also been seeing a lot of Lil’ Ragnaros (critter racial and shields are great against Lil’ Ragnaros), but as I mentioned before this team is winning so I don’t want to break it up.

The Opposing Team:
P/P Sunreaver Micro-Sentry
P/S Clockwork Gnome
P/S Corefire Imp

The Battle:
040914BNo birds to drop, dang. Not just that, but a two mechs to soft counter all of my magic damage. The Fiendish Imp was going to have carry the load. The battle started off as Fiendish Imp versus Sunreaver Micro-Sentry. Sometimes Lightning can help your enemy as much as hurt it, but with Immolation being my only DoT and with me having a beast I thought it best to get Sunreaver Micro-Sentry out before it could change the weather. The Corefire Imp was brought in and then it cast Rush a few times before swapping out to the Clockwork Gnome. Turrets were dropped, I swapped to the Restless Shadeling who then had to face the the Sunreaver Micro-Sentry. After finally changing the weather to Lightning the Clockwork Gnome came back. The swapping came to an end as both pets settled in and duked it out. The Restless Shadeling won thanks to help from Immolation.

040914AThe Corefire Imp came in after the first mech’s death to face the Restless Shadeling. It finished off my undead pet then healed itself on the undead round. Even with the heal from Cauterize the Corefire Imp didn’t have much left for the Warpstalker Hatchling. One Warpstrike was all it took to finish it off. Now I had the scary match-up of the Warpstalker Hatchling against the last mech. Call Lightning did some big damage but I was so far ahead by now that it didn’t matter all that much. The beast took the Sunreaver Micro-Sentry to zero health, then the Fiendish Imp took out the little bit of health brought back from Failsafe. Five out of five for this team! I shouldn’t get too excited, really it’s not that great of a team, but I would like to explore the Restless Shadeling and imp combo some more. The Scourged Whelpling is my first choice for Plagued Blood but I’m sure I could find some uses for the Restless Shadeling.
