Five Wins Or Bust

Battle 1: Spanksgiving
Highlands Turkey, Scalded Basilisk Hatchling, Spirit Crab
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Clefthoof Runt, Scourged Whelpling

042914EThe beginning of this battle couldn’t have gone any better. The Unborn Val’kyr stayed in for the duration of Food Coma, the Spirit Crab laid down a Whirlpool on the turn that the Unborn Val’kyr haunted then the Clefthoof Runt made the mistake of Stampeding the shielded Spirit Crab. After such a poor start it would have been hard for my opponent to come back. After another Food Coma they didn’t even try and decided to flee. Every time an Unborn Val’kyr team runs an abandoned kitten somewhere is adopted. It’s true!
Record: 1-0

Battle 2: Those Nutty Pheromones
Son Of Animus, Kovok, Grizzly Squirrel
vs. Scourged Whelpling, Crimson Whelpling, Jademist Dancer

042914AAs was discussed in yesterday’s comments when Touch Of The Animus works it can be amazing. I was able to get two of them up at different points in the battle. The best incident was when my Grizzly Squirrel came in at 768 hp, cast Nut Barrage and ended the round with a full 1400 health. Nut Barrage also pulverized the Scourged Whelpling, doing over 1k damage while Black Claw was up. I guess the Squirrel’s Nut Barrage was the all star here. I don’t know that Pheromones was all that effective, the damage it did to the back line pets really didn’t impact the outcome of the battle. Perhaps I will change the middle move to Digest Brains in the future. Record: 2-0

Battle 3: A Dreadful Encounter
Droplet Of Y’Shaarj, Scourged Whelpling, Snarly
vs. Sunreaver Micro-Sentry, Peddlefeet, Death Talon Whelpguard

This was obviously a Call Lightning team so I held of casting Acid Rain until after my opponent changed the weather. They swapped in Peddlefeet but didn’t like the results Rapid Fire was getting without the desired weather so they fled.
Record: 3-0

Battle 4: Death By Water
Eternal Strider, Jademist Dancer, Snarly
vs. Untamed Hatchling, Festering Maggot, Silkbead Snail

042914DI was shocked at how well the Untamed Hatchling did at the beginning of this battle. With Roar and the dragonkin racial it put a surprising amount of hurt on my team. After it was gone my opponent made a few mistakes by applying a DoT on a near dead pet when they should have taken it out. In the end it was Snarly versus the Maggot with the weather helping Snarly. It wasn’t pretty.
Record: 4-0

Battle 5: Beige Bandits
Qiraji Guardling, Living Sandling, Direhorn Runt
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Death Adder Hatchling, Scourged Whelpling

042914BIt wasn’t the S/S Death Adder Hatchling that everyone hates but beating a 260 speed snake and an Unborn Val’kyr is still satisfying. The Direhorn Runt was the superstar of this battle by a long shot. After the Qiraji Guardling got the sand flowing the beast came in to put up its shield and block all the Haunt ticks. It got blinded but it wasn’t that big of a deal since it was faster than the Death Adder Hatchling and also because the second attack of Trample hit through the blind. The Direhorn Runt was faster than all of the enemy pets and it made them suffer with Horn Attack stuns. My opponent fled when the writing was on the wall so yes, another kitten has a home.
Record: 5-0

I have an H/P and and H/S Kovok, neither levelled; I never bothered because I had heard they were nerfed and I never really had one on enemy teams.

However your posts have made me want to try them out, which one to level first? 305 Speed or Power? Or should I go out and get an H/H one?

    • Hirrus says:

I would think the power would be the way to go. Kovok has no moves that benefit from being faster, besides possibly Digest Brains, which could get off a heal before dying by going first. The only other benefit you get is denying your opponent their fast moves. 305 doesn’t outspeed a lot of pets; most pets who depend on speed for their moves come in breeds that give them 325+. But if someone’s got an off breed, 305 might edge them out.

That said, looking at the differences between H/P and H/H, it’s going to be personal preference. You gain a little under 200 HP with the H/H, but Digest Brains only gains about 20 HP per heal with the H/P. Kovok would have to survive for 10 heals to have more effective HP, so if you like your pets to be tanky, H/H is the way to go. But if you’re looking to wreck stuff, Black Claw gains 10 damage, and Poison Fang gains 20 to the main hit, and 10 to the poison. That averages out to around 30 or 40 extra damage per round, considering the round putting Black Claw up, and the round for Digest Brains. It gets to be an even bigger swing with Pheromones, since it gets an extra 10 per enemy out of the H/P breed, and that’s if your opponent doesn’t swap on Black Claw.

If you’ve got the choice, I’d say the H/P would be the way to go. Generally, power breeds are the preferable breeds when speed is not a factor for the moveset. But if you ask me, Kovok is too expensive to be picky.

Thanks for a very clear explanation. H/P it is! (I always went with speed in PVP but now I realize that Power is often good too)

Last night, I had pwned someone’s fun team twice in a row with clonedance, so I decided to run with my raptor themed team to be a sport. Came up against DAH/Valk/Rags. Took out the DAH and the Valk with my own Zandalari and Cogblade, so it was my Haunt’d Fossilized Hatchling vs full-health Rags. For some unfathomable reason, they ran.

If a kitten gets adopted whenever a Valk runs, what happens when a Lil’ Ragnaros runs?

    • Noel says:

“By Fire Be Purged!” lol. I have no idea why he ran; scared of raptors? Kitten gets a ball of twine!

      • Hirrus says:

I probably could have forced a draw if I got lucky against the Trap. Ancient Blessing and the undead racial could have given me the longevity to do it. It was also kind of late, so it’s possible their wife/girlfriend/mom/husband/boyfriend/dad/sibling/legal guardian/roommate/sidekick/etc could have walked in and forced them off to bed.
