Today’s Team: Spanksgiving
P/S Highlands Turkey (Peck, Squawk, Food Coma)
H/H Spirit Crab (Snap, Whirlpool, Shell Shield)
H/S Scalded Basilisk Hatchling (Crystal Prison, Feign Death, Thrash)

Rationale:
I like using the a turkey for a very simple trick. I start with Food Coma to put the enemy pet to sleep. Then my opponent can choose to either swap or not. If they don’t swap then I get a free turn (since Food Coma lasts for 2 rounds), if they do swap then it’s no loss at all. I’m surprised at how many people stay in rather than swap. Usually I’ll bring the Spirit Crab in to throw down a Whirlpool or put up a shield on my free turn. Even when this doesn’t work these pets are solid, so far there have been plenty of wins with a few losses here and there.

Concerns:
As always, flyers make me nervous when I use the basilisk. Right before doing this write up I got spanked by a Warbot and a moth. The spank in Spanksgiving is supposed to be for me spanking other teams, not vice versa!

The Opposing Team:
S/S Alpine Foxling
P/B Kun-Lai Runt
P/S Scourged Whelpling

The Battle:
042614AMy opponent fell for the trick. I cast Food Coma on the Scourged Whelpling then swapped to the Spirit Crab. The Scourged Whelpling stayed in, which allowed my crab to cast Whirlpool while the undead dragon was asleep. This allowed my Spirit Crab to win the head to head then get off another Whirlpool and a Snap against the KLR. The basilisk finished off the KLR with a Crystal Prison and Thrashes. The Alpine Foxling was faster than my Scalded Basilisk Hatchling so I brought back the turkey for a fairly easy kill and a fairly easy win.

Did you run this for a few matches? I think I came up against it. Memory is a little fuzzy.

I believe I had crystal spider / toothy / imperial eagle. I felt I played the first match really well (came down to the last round), but the turkey was impossible to take down with my team (had the speed advantage over my flier).

I quick subbed an anti-flyer in for the aquatic and requed. Promptly got a Val’kyr team. Ran, put the aquatic back in, requed (hoping to get a proper shot at the Val’kyr). Got the turkey again. Played it through, but head wasn’t in the match after the failed countering. Made lots of mistakes the second time.

Yeah, that was me. I remember those battles because I rarely see an Imperial Eagle Chick. My memory is fuzzy too, but I think the first battle was somewhat of a nail-biter.

How’s the Crystal Spider working out for you? I’ve noticed more of them in the queue, are you running it a lot? I’ve thought that it has potential for awhile now but every time I try to use it I only have minimal success. It does okay, but not great. Any really good teams that you’ve come up with?

Brittle webbing is super fun. :) The crystal spider is a sentimental favourite. I got 4 pets to 25 and then got right into pvp. I somehow knew my crawdad was bad karma, so my team was Anode bear, Eternal strider and spider. I chuckled at your recent “demolish spamming noob” post b/c that’s exactly how I started. :)

I’ve kind of given up on playing teams. Regardless my best intentions to play a team, shortly into my session my 3 pets bear no resemblance to my plan. So now I start each session with a val’kyr counter, a DAH counter, and a “pet” project. Just see where things take me.

That said, the battles with you showed I have to pair the spider with a non-aquatic Val’kyr counter, otherwise fliers are kryptonite. Minefields were also terrible with a beast and a bird in the back. Spider got 1-shot a couple of times on the weekend. Feel spider needs to be paired with something tanky that can outlast minefields.

Part of the spider thinking was a clone dance counter. Getting brittle webbing on the blighthawk is pretty funny. There is usually a multi-hitter on the other side, and its got pretty good burst.

Long post already. Been using the Eagle on your recommendation (Owl is my default bird). Its been up and down. The P/P seems to make me struggle against other fliers, which is compounded if my Val’kyr counter is aquatic.

I do the same thing, a Valkyr counter, a DAH counter and a third pet whatever I feel like. Guess until the meta clears up I might have to stick with this.

Unlike most of you I don’t have a huge stable of levelled pets to choose from but I do my dailies and try to level one a day. Eventually :) Can’t wait to get a stunted direhorn and a quiraji sandling!

My most recent level is a Spawn of G’nathus. Going to put him in the pool of Val’k counters.

Be interesting to here what people think is the biggest cheese out there right now. For me its Val’kyr – Mechanical Dragon. I’m hoping aquatic + thunderbolt to clear decoy + elemental slot 1 will eat this duo. Kind of worried Spawn doesn’t have enough health to be a good Val’k soak tho.
