Challenge Mode
I have some time today so I’m gonna give challenge mode a shot. I’ll play with my best teams and see how many wins I can get without losing.

Battle 1: All Buzz Cons
Fiendish Imp, Warbot, Fledgling Buzzard
vs. Feral Vermling, Sumprush Rodent, Scourged Whelpling

041614FNether Gating a beast into a Minefield is quite a dastardly thing to do. Well call me a dastard, because that’s what I did to the Sumprush Rodent. The Feral Vermling and Hopling are pets that I have never made successful teams with, but they often do well against me. Which means I’m doing it wrong. This time the Feral Vermling didn’t give me much grief, mostly due to two of my pets being faster than it.

Battle 2: Bet On Birds
Dread Hatchling, Gilnean Raven, Warbot
vs. Cinder Kitten, Pengu, Stunted Direhorn

041614AAgain the Minefield ate up the beast, this time by my opponent’s choice. Perhaps they were putting all of their faith in the hope that Pengu’s Slippery Ice would cause enough misses to lead them to victory. It caused a few, but not enough to change the outcome of the battle. The best thing about this battle was that Pengu was the last pet I had to face, which meant I didn’t have to see it standing up on the back line after it had already died. That always creeps me out.

Battle 3: Electric Pickles
Fiendish Imp, Death Adder Hatchling, Spirit Crab
vs. Ruby Droplet, Unborn Val’kyr, Peddlefeet

041614EIt seems like this was supposed to be a Haunt and stall team, but my speed helped to foil that plan. What I thought was interesting about this battle was that the Ruby Droplet never used the bubble. I think it was waiting for the Whirlpool, but the one time a Whirlpool was down Peddlefeet took the damage. I was able to swap out the Val’kyr in the beginning and then later my Spirit Crab ate the only Haunt. That was a tough battle for sure, but I live to fight again.

Battle 4: Obvious Ponies
Fiendish Imp, Warbot, Unborn Val’kyr
vs. Feral Vermling, Sumprush Rodent, Scourged Whelpling

The same team as battle 1. Same mines, same beast, same outcome. Haunting a humanoid probably helped, too.

Battle 5: Battlegropers
Jademist Dancer, Blighthawk, Snarly
vs. Warbot, Snarly, Infested Bear Cub

041614BWow cool, it’s one of my best 5.3 teams, “The Hard Call”. Oh wait, not cool, this team is still pretty good. I started with my Blighthawk to drop a Cyclone as the usual clonedance strategy goes. My opponent started with the Warbot to lay down some mines. After a Ghostly Bite and Extra Plating from the Warbot I decided to deviate from the plan and keep my Blighthawk in. Perhaps my opponent expected the usual swap because Snarly was brought in. That would have been bad for my Jademist Dancer but instead it was bad for Snarly because my Blighthawk was packing Slicing Winds. My undead took out Snarly and laid down another Cyclone before expiring. The Jademist Dancer came in then my opponent threw down the second Minefield and brought in the undead bear. After dispatching the Infested Bear Cub I thought I was headed for a loss. The Jademist Dancer could only take a few hits from the Warbot, Snarly would walk into the Minefield then have to deal with Extra Plating and the mechanical racial. It would be close, but my opponent didn’t see it that way and ran away. Phew.

Battle 6: Total Cheese
Unborn Val’kyr, Stitched Pup, Death Adder Hatchling
vs. Warbot, Snarly, Infested Bear Cub

041614CI had such good times with The Hard Call that I was almost rooting for them to win. Almost. This battle was not as close as the last one. The Stitched Pup immediately used Consume Corpse after it walked into first the Minefield, I really hate when that happens to me when I’m facing a Consume Corpse team. I think the battle was won when I swapped out the soon to be dead from a DoT Stitched Pup after the Warbot came out to put down the second Minefield. The Stitched Pup died on the back line but used its undead round to eat the mines. Minefields are powerful, but there are often ways around them. After wasting all of that damage on the dead dog I was able to win fairly easily.

Battle 7: Trihard Shield
Fiendish Imp, Warbot, Stunted Direhorn
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Stitched Pup, Blighthawk

This person is such a jerk for running a team like this (/glance at battle 6 and hope no one notices)! I thought I was in decent shape but I ended up getting stuck with my Imp against the Unborn Val’kyr. Eventually the Fiendish Imp was going to have to fight an undead. It was a decent challenge mode, six wins in a row is okay.

Final Score: 6 wins
