Weekly Challenge #6

November 2, 2013
After a good run last week with Kovok teams I’m gonna mix it up a little more this week.

Battle 1 (Obvious Ponies)
Fiendish Imp, Warbot, Unborn Val’kyr
vs Spineclaw Crab, Vengeful Porcupette, Vengeful Porcupette

w110213FI’m not really sure what this person was going for. I started out with the Warbot versus the Crab to put down a Minefield, but rather than swap to the Val’kyr like I normally do just duked it out. I did this because I could use Extra Plating to absorb the Blood In The Water and also because the Val’kyr wouldn’t have done well against the Crab. The Warbot won the head to head versus the Crab and was able to get another Minefield down. A Minefield for each beast meant an easy win.

Battle 2 (Reamplification)
Spirit Crab, Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling, Kovok
vs. Fiendish Imp, Giant Bone Spider, Unborn Val’kyr

w110213GThe swaps really put a damper on my strategy of using Amplify Magic to buff Pheromones. There were a few turns of mind games where I had to choose between Amplifying and Surging and I lost them all. I thought I was headed for an early exit when my opponent made a common mistake with swap teams: the Bone Spider made a swap that actually helped me. Thanks to the bad move I was able to come back and win. I should mention that my opponent left before the battle was decided. Another bad move, Breath is only a 90% move and could have missed twice in a row, which is what the Val’kyr needed.

Battle 3 (Born To Be Crabby)
Dandelion Frolicker, Death Adder Hatchling, Spirit Crab
vs. Fiendish Imp, Unborn Val’kyr, Death Adder Hatchling

This was a tough one. It would have been very difficult against an S/S Imp and S/S Adder, but they were both slower breeds. I had to be clever with my Blinding Poison by not using it at the obvious times. The Crab was able to absorb a lot of he Haunt and Curse damage. My Death Adder ended up surviving with 588 hp so it was fairly close. Overall it was another boring Val’kyr battle.

Battle 4 (Rotten Rich)
Spirit Crab, Harmonious Porcupette, Kovok
vs. Unborn Val’kyr, Darkmoon Monkey, Skittering Cavern Crawler

w110213COh, oh. Brittle Webbing is starting to appear as a counter to Pheromones and here I am with a Kovok. I decided to start with Kovok anyways while my opponent chose the Val’kyr. I used Pheromones and got Cursed. I expected to get Haunted as I swapped to the Crab but got Shadow Slashed instead. It must be an Unholy Ascension Val’kyr. I didn’t deviate from my plan, after Amplify Magic and Rot I swapped to the Harmonious Porcupette to finish off the Val’kyr and get the buffs up for Kovok’s second appearance. When the spider came out I left the Porcupette in until it died, then went to Kovok. A shielded Kovok was able to take out the other two pets.

Battle 5 (Sears And Robot)
Spirit Crab, Sen’Jin Fetish, Warbot
vs. Zandalari Kneebiter, Jade Oozeling, Giant Bone Spider

w110213DThis was fun, a battle without any new 5.4 pets. With all of my pets being so slow the Giant Bone Spider gave me a lot of trouble. It took a combined effort of all three of my pets to take it out. After it was gone the Crab was able to take down the Oozeling, then the raptor walked into a Minefield. I had a scary moment when a crucial Snap missed, but I was able to recover.

Battle 6 (Marionette Barry)
Tiny Twister, Fiendish Imp, Macabre Marionette
vs. Jungle Darter, Clockwork Gnome, Kun-Lai Runt

w110213ERunning a Lightning team is scary because Lightning can hurt you as much as help you. I saw the Gnome and the Darter and knew I couldn’t use Lightning. Fortunately this team wasn’t a very good one imo so I let the power of the Imp take over. The Imp was able to do a lot of damage by not swapping at all. I think my opponent was expecting the Nether Gate so they kept the Darter in much longer than they should have. I saved the Gate until after the Runt Chilled me. By the time the Imp swapped to the Twister it had done a bunch of damage and refreshed Immolation. After Wild Winds almost took out the Darter I decided it was safe to use Lightning, the Imp and Twister cleaned up. I never had to use the Marionette.

Battle 7 (Total Cheese)
Unborn Val’kyr, Blighthawk, Death Adder Hatchling
vs. Death Adder Hatchling, Macabre Marionette, Jadefire Spirit

w110213AAfter battle 6 I returned about seven hours later to continue and I lost. I still have no idea what happened. My Val’kyr didn’t res when I thought it should have, which is why I put my Blighthawk in when I did for the Consume Corpse. What’s worse than running a cheesy combo? Losing with a cheesy combo. There were no hax or bugs, I guess after the long day out my head wasn’t in it. My Val’kyr must have died and I didn’t notice. No worries, the long day was really fun and worth my run ending at an average six wins.

Game over.

Final Score: 6 wins.
